DS7 Software Update (19 reg)

Post by Iansel »

I have received an email from DS asking me to download a software update to a flash drive then update the car from the flash drive.

Has anyone done this?
Was it successful?
What are the chances of bricking the control system?

None if you follow the instructions. Just remember to keep the engine running throughout the entire update to prevent it going into economy mode.

Remember the update can take anywhere up to 40 minutes, so wait until you have the time. Also, don't fiddle with any buttons or switches when updating.

Marc,

Well I thought I would risk it so followed the instructions, entered the VIN and selected the destination folder but when I tried to actually download the update file I get a pop up box telling me it is not possible to download to a flash drive!! Then when I try to download to the PC hard disk its says there is not enough space which there clearly is unless the file is more than 10 GB which I doubt.

I have rebooted the Windows PC and downloaded the software again to no avail.

Any ideas?

This is the email from DS if anyone else wants a go.

Hello,

Updating your navigation system is done using the "DS Update" application. This application prepares the USB key that you will need to use in your vehicle.

If you have previously downloaded the application, open it and start downloading the update.

If you have not yet download the application, download the application "DS Connect Update" with the URL below:
For Windows : https://map-update.dspp.awsmpsa.com/installer.exe
For MAC : https://map-update.dspp.awsmpsa.com/installer.dmg

Make sure that the application is downloaded and saved on the hard drive of your computer and not directly on an external support connected by USB.

You must have administrator rights on the computer and a broadband Internet connection.

Hi Ian

Ok, so there are 2 parts to this.

1) First, they have supplied you with a link to the actual 'update programme'. This is the installer utility that you download to and then install on your PC (or use the second link if you if you have a MAC).
2) Once you have installed the utility, this then checks for the updates for your vehicle once you input the VIN.
3) If there are any systems firmware updates or map updates, they will show up in the utility.
4) The utility will then prepare a USB stick for you in the correct format and copy the relevant files onto the USB that you can then install in the vehicle using the USB port.
5) Remember that Firmware updates (System Head Unit Software Update) and Map Updates are always undertaken separately. Always start with the Firmware update first if there is one and then when completed, if you have a map update, you will need to use the same utility to repeat the process to prepare the USB for the map update.

Be warned these can take anywhere up to an hour to complete each, depending on the size of the update.

What you have to do is make sure you have a USB key that has plenty of capacity, as for example the latest European map update is 19 Gigabytes for a Wave 4 system!

Always best to have a 32 or 64 Gb USB key on hand.

PS I removed one of your links as it was a direct link to your individual licence file.

Normally these are not needed as the updates will activate over the air, but they supplied the licence file in case you have no connectivity I suspect.

Marc,

i get to your step 4 where you select the destination for the file download. That is where it fails as it wont let me download the update file to the USB flash drive with the message

"It is not possible to select a USB flash drive as the download location"

If I try to down load to a folder on the PC (with a view to copying it on to the flash drive later) I get the message

"disk space is insufficient"

After reading your last message I will find a 64GB flash drive and try again!

Thanks

Ian

The email you received specifically states that you have to download to a computer NOT the USB drive so that won't work. Once on your computer you use the program to prepare the USB drive.

"Make sure that the application is downloaded and saved on the hard drive of your computer and not directly on an external support connected by USB.

You must have administrator rights on the computer and a broadband Internet connection."

How much free space is showing on your computer? Just to confirm, it is a Windows or Mac and not a Chromebook, Linux or something like that.

As Paul mentioned this is a 2 step process. You must first download the utility programme to your PC.
This may get downloaded to your default downloads folder unless you specified somewhere else. Note the name of the executable file.
Next locate the downloaded file above and install it on your PC.
When the programme is installed, you open the programme, then use your VIN to search for the system firmware update and map updates that are available. The utility will guide you on the rest of the preparation of the USB.

I have downloaded the installer and installed the app on my PC and it runs. I have entered the VIN and it has returned that an update is available.
The problem only occurs when I try to download the update file to either my flash drive or my hard disk. That is when i get the two messages.

I will get a bigger flash drive and see if that makes any difference.

Ian

Attempting to paste the two images I get below but not sure if it will work!

Looks like you're trying to save into your OneDrive which is virtual. Save it onto the computer's hard drive.

Sometimes having too long a location 'string' can cause issues. Might I suggest that you create the following, and see if the files will be downloaded to it?

C:\PATCHES\DS\

EDIT; I didn't spot the OneDrive bit.

Hell Razor - Well I have tried that with no success. Surely the download cant be more than 16 GB!

Has anyone successfully downloaded the update and can tell me how big it is?

Yes they can Ian, so if your PC Hard Drive is short on space it won't allow the download, as it would leave your PC with virtually no space to run anything.

Probably time for a hard drive upgrade.

I would suggest a few things to do first. Run the 'Disk Cleanup' app (in Windows 10 it is normally under Administrative Tools) to get rid of any 'rubbish' that may have built up (such as temporary Internet files and stuff in the Recycle Bin), followed by the Defrag app (same place). These may free up some otherwise wasted space.

Next, seriously consider fitting another HDD with plenty of capacity. It has been shown that, when an HDD has less than 10% capacity left, the O/S can struggle to manage itself properly.
