Welsh Corgi Pembroke, the breed much loved by HM Queen Elizabeth II.

What was the first Corgi owned by the then Princess Elizabeth called :?:
I had no idea so asked SWMBO who said the princess had taken one called Susan on honeymoon but she didn't think it was the first. So I DDG'd and discovered she was quite right and the first one was called Dookie, after Queen Charlotte apparently!
More information here!
Susan was my answer on the card Mick, and that one given to Princess Elizabeth on her 18th Birthday, was the first one she personally "owned", although as the article points out it was not the first "family Corgi".

Excellent TOH knowledge from your better half!

According to wiki Susan did have a penchant for giving folk a nip!

Extract from this what pleasure you can...ESSO must have had a refinery to build at Milford Haven...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esso_Refi ... 434ff1c266
The Esso Refinery at Milford Haven was an oil refinery situated on the Pembrokeshire coast in Wales. Construction started in 1957 and the refinery was opened in 1960 by the Duke of Edinburgh. Construction cost £18 million and the refinery had the initial capacity to process 4.5 million tons of crude oil a year.

One of the pioneering Aviation feats took place in Pembrokeshire in 1912 on April 22nd. Chocs away at 6 am and 100 minutes later the first successful flight between Great Britain and Ireland had been completed.

Not the most dignified of landings...

After 100 minutes of flight, the last 30 minutes of which were in heavy rain, Corbett Wilson spotted a field he thought suitable for landing. It proved however to be too short and his Bleriot X1 ended up in the hedge with a broken propeller.

I have one regular postcard-sender, and they are great! Always enjoy getting them, and added to the various quirky pictures, there is always a "different take" in the message.

This one landed on the mat this morning.

So much in it. The image itself is a lovely bit of photography. The scene is Tenby South Wales, and that is the Pembrokeshire Ice Cream Company with its 6-wheel, I do believe, something like a range rover.

The photographer is Martin Parr one of "heros" of my postcard sender.

I'm going to look at his other stuff on the net.

All this from a good old fashioned postcard....

Often regarded as the jewel in Pembrokeshire Tenby is a very pretty place to visit and has some great stories to tell. My favourite is this:

Wally the Walrus

On 19 March 2021, an Arctic walrus was spotted on the rocks of Broad Haven South beach, after initially making the journey over from Ireland. During its time in Tenby, it was situated primarily on the new RNLI Lifeboat Tenby slipway. Wally was not spotted between 5 to 8 April 2021 and there were concerns that sightseers had driven him away, but he was back regularly resting on the slipway later in the month, and on one occasion had to be moved to allow the slipway to be used.

Some believed that the walrus made the journey from the Arctic on an ice floe. The RSPCA believes this is the most southernly sighting of the species; occasionally they can be seen in Scotland.

Despite spending most of his days resting and scavenging for food, he has been causing some mischief. It was reported that he capsized a dingy and damaged a fishing boat trying to board the vessels.

Further information about Tenby here.

I thought it was to do with Operation Mincemeat, which Ian Fleming had a hand in. I was wrong, however.

Yes your TOH is spot on. Wiki puts it like this
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Tenby_(F65)
The fake military funeral of Commander James Bond in the 1967 film You Only Live Twice was filmed on board this ship, which was near Gibraltar at that time. In the film however, it was portrayed as being in Hong Kong.
