The Charterhall Racing Circuit in Berwickshire mentioned in the previous post, a former RAF Airfield between Greenlaw and Duns. Operational as a racing circuit between 1952 to 1964.

Re: Today's County in the spotlight
..and this one does for Berwickshire for me, and the County in the Spotlight torch can be passed onto the next random County.
Two birds with one stone. An unusual place name for the location..near Upsetlington Berwickshire, not now in place but recovered from an unknown acquired Kodachrome slide from this Flickr contibution. Surprising when you look at his series of albums, fascinating with subject matter vaguely reminiscent of the FCF Off-topic Chat Lounge

Random selection invited for the next County

One of the few counties for which I could have described the flag without looking it up!! Mainly due to my following Graham Gooch's career!!

Re: Today's County in the spotlight
As a nearly teenager I used to spend a week in Rayleigh staying with my cousin and one of the highlights of the week was an evening coach trip to Tiptree where we were able to pick our own strawberries and eat whatever you wanted while doing so. Many an evening return trip was puntuated by the need to let someone off the coach for a few minutes!!
Things have changed a bit these days it would seem:

Re: Today's County in the spotlight
I have to say that I was fortunate enough to meet Steve Davis at the Harrow Conservative Club for our regional final of the Courage "Play the Stars" snooker tournament, and he was exceedingly interesting to chat with. Mind you we were talking about snooker at the time!!NewcastleFalcon wrote: ↑15 Apr 2022, 14:59Makes it "interesting" Mick.mickthemaverick wrote: ↑15 Apr 2022, 14:49 Another FCF spooky there Neil!! Re: Today's County in the spotlight
When our REME workshop unit returned from Egypt we were posted to South Benfleet, at that time quite a bit of the area was just being built, new towns and industrial sites all around, that was Christmas 1954 / January 1955.
I remember road testing an army truck, turning in a factory driveway and being invited to lunch in the factory canteen.
To get a weekend pass we had to do a five mile cross country run on Saturday morning, lots of blue knees running through the cemetery on a freezing January morning in the PT shorts..

Re: Today's County in the spotlight
Trying to choose an Essex beer is a bit like picking a sheep from the roaming flock in the Yorkshire Dales!! There are very many to try and I suspect life would be shortened for anyone who attempted to try them all so I will pick what I believe to be the most unusually named beer from Essex. The challenge is to get it right when you go to order your 4th pint!!

Re: Today's County in the spotlight
One of Essex's claims to fame is the fact that it has the world's longest pier. Seen in films and TV series of various sorts it is an iconic image never to be forgotten. During my primary school days our family holiday was spent in Shoeburyness, as I'm sure I have mentioned elsewhere on the FCF, which meant a great many visits to the pier from just having the return train ride to walking down to board the Royal Daffodil or Royal Sovereign for a day trip to France. I loved the pier as a child and I still hold a certain fondness for it now.:
