Before anyone makes an anomalous error, Berwick-upon-Tweed is in Northumberland :-D

This is Berwickshire...the exact location of 50,000 miles coming up on the Leaf.
NewcastleFalcon wrote: 29 Mar 2022, 22:58 Today the BB Leaf's mileometer ticked over to 50,000 miles. I like to record such events, the product of innumerable random journeys both by us and for the 28,400 miles when it was owned by someone else.

So it was very nearly a literal on the border moment as 49999 appeared on a border bridge over the Tweed designed by the same bloke who did Eddystone Lighthouse....not the Robert Stevenson one but the tower before that.

Not to be. One mile further on at this village sign, the mileometer's transient display displayed the 50,000 reading captured here.

Go a bit left to Kelso and you end up in Roxburghshire, go a bit farther up and you end up in East Lothian, where you find North Berwick/Dunbar regular haunts, and Berwickshire itself Coldstream is a regular charge point, Duns too/Burnmouth/Eyemouth/St Abbs on the coast. You get a fair enough view of the Berwickshire Coast on the A1 just into Berwickshire where the pretty anonymous border is, and an even better one from the Train. The best borders are where the Tweed provides the border particularly at Chain bridge, Norham, and Coldstream

Aforementioned unless you fancy a swim, these are the three and only three Border crossings between Berwickshire and Northumberland where the Tweed acts as the Border.

I spent some time in Coldstream while working on the ICI Ethylene Pipeline project and found the people and the locality to be extremely friendly. Chatting with a local butcher about his father who had served in the Coldstream Guards brought home to me how proud the residents are to have The British Army's oldest regiment named after their town. As I understand it this was a result of the soldiers marching into battle from Coldstream and becoming known as the Coldstreamers way back in the 17-18 hundreds. I have found a very interesting source for further information on the story of the regiment if you are interested, see the link below.
Meantime I came across this quotation which I think illustrates the feeling quite well:

No doubt about it Paxton House is north of the border which at that point is the river Tweed. Berwickshire through and through.

Unless its a pedantic pick up of my use of "Hall" in my 2016 post.

Not at all :-D
Just a southerner's ignorance about somewhere being near Berwick-upon-Tweed not being south of the border! :-D

No probs, If you google Paxton Hall up pops a care home near St Neots Cambridgeshire :-D.

now for a bit of music related to the Coldstream Guards

Northumbrian Airs
Lieutenant Colonel T Sharpe

Written by possibly the most famous Director of Music of the Band of the Coldstream Guards, Lieutenant Colonel Trevor Sharpe, this march was composed at the request of the Regiment with the simple brief of showcasing county folk tunes from the Coldstream recruiting area of Northumbria. The Regiment were so pleased with the result that they adopted it as the Company March for both Number 1 Company, 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards and for Number 2 Company, 2nd Battalion Coldstream Guards. Included is a particularly vibrant version of the well-known Geordie song ‘Blaydon Races’.

The first air is Keep Yer feet Still Geordie Hinny!

Surprised me, but as far north and west this is it still remains in Berwickshire, as it butts up against Midlothian.

Lauder its most notable feature being The Flat Cat gallery and Coffee Shop, and the slightly grander Thirlestane Castle, very nice backdrop for a classic car show there in 2017.
NewcastleFalcon wrote: 25 Jun 2018, 15:40 Another spot from Sunday. Travel the A68 through Lauder in the Borders and you will most likely see this parked outside the Flat Cat.

I like the Estafette, looks a bit more "manageable" than a CitroenH, less bulky, and dare I say it, much prettier (if a van can be pretty!)
