Hello,
I just joined the forum and wondered if there are any old school Peugeot fans on here? I have some tech questions about XUD & DW8 engines, and also happy to share my high mileage experiences. However, looking through the recent posts, they are all concerning much later models.
Any interest?

Welcome along
There's a few here still running older models, and some have been around these engines a long time! Ask the questions, some pearls might be forthcoming!

I started working at a Peugeot Dealer in 1971. Since then had my own Peugeot Indy for 22 years.
Trouble is I’m long retired and may have trouble remembering some jobs. It’s called getting old.

Please do join in. I've had 2 XUD9 Bx's, 1 BX with the XUD7TE and a 406 with the XUD11. Not none died because of motor failure, it was the rust worm.

Notice the BX is still top the list but sadly gone

Re: XUD
Hi Folks, and thanks for the messages.
I have enjoyed running a 305 estate for many years and familiar with the XUD9 N/A engine. It's a comfortable drive and throughly dependable. I can easily service it myself, and never any problems with the MOT smoke test.
I am interested to learn what tech advances Peugeot made when they superseded the XUD with the DW8? As far as I can tell, they are similar. Change to dry liners and repositioned glow plugs and addition of EGR & cat. The basic architecture appears to be the same. However, in my experience the DW8 has very noticeable increase in performance, and wondering how I could apply that to my XUD.
My 305 est will return approx 45mpg around town, 48 - 52mpg on a run. I ran a 99model 206 for six months. A similar size car, albeit more streamlined shape. That had the DW8 engine. Performance was more lively and it returned 55 - 60 mpg. I was expecting the EGR to decrease performance!
Any ideas?
