Image
A hundred was the division of a shire for administrative, military and judicial purposes under the common law. Originally, when introduced by the Saxons between 613 and 1017, a hundred had enough land to sustain approximately one hundred households headed by a hundred-man or hundred eolder.

Not sure if it had a "former glory" but the Radnor Arms New Radnor has been closed since 2015.

It used to be an outlet for the local Radnorshire Ales from Brookside Farm in the town.

Must be a contender now for Radnorshire's worst pub :-D

I guess we mustn't let Radnorshire go without a mention for Moggy in neighbouring Montgomeryshire's Newtown. Now well known in EV markets he is the man behind Electric Classic Cars the stars of the TV series Vintage Voltage:

The Forest of Dean is divided into hundreds too

St Briavels was an ancient hundred of Gloucestershire, England. It comprised the extra-parochial area of the Forest of Dean, and the ancient parishes of The hundred was created at some time between 1086 and 1220 to provide a structure for the administration of the Forest of Dean. The meeting place was St Briavels Castle.

Box 714 is comfortably within the borders of the historic county of Morayshire, but right on the edge is box 746 at Dava, the random coming across and photographing of which led to the FCF AA Box Challenge kicking off in 2016.

The main town of Moray Elgin is one of the 38 places across the UK and British Overseas Territories that have applied to win city status as part of a competition being run in honour of the 2022 Platinum Jubilee.

Moray's finest bridge spanning the Spey.
geograph-6806535-by-Anne-Burgess.jpg
Craigellachie Bridge https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6806535
The map names this as 'Telford Bridge', which is incorrect. It would be correct to say 'Telford's Bridge' or 'Thomas Telford's Craigellachie Bridge', or even 'the Telford bridge at Craigellachie' but its correct name is Craigellachie Bridge. It was indeed designed by Thomas Telford, and built in 1814 using components prefabricated at Plas Kynaston in Wales. Telford heeded the advice of local people and built it several feet higher than originally planned. It was a good decision, because it was the only bridge to survive the Great Flood of August 1829. At the left-hand end there is a very sharp bend, fine for a cart or carriage or a small car, but difficult for buses and lorries to negotiate. The bridge was replaced by a modern bridge in 1972 but remains open for pedestrians and cyclists.
