Just round the back were a couple of cars, in the sort of state whereby you would think those two are never going to run again, A Citroen DS, and an NSU RO 80.

Llandrindod Wells Rock Park
https://www.visitmidwales.co.uk/Llandri ... ature=1019
There are a number of mineral springs in the park, including saline, sulphur, magnesia, lithia, radium and chalybeate, the last being the only one that is still available to drink from a marble drinking fountain.

The springs were known in Roman times when the area was known as Balnea Siluria (baths of the Silures). There are a number of Roman practice camps in the fields to the south of the park, and a Roman Road runs through the park on SW, NE direction; there is also a Roman well beneath the paved area in front of the Spa Buildings.

The original springs sound like a who's who of how to poison yourself. Good old wholesome Lithium and Radium :-D

Didn't know chalybeate means a spring rich in iron salts.

Did you take this photo Neil? White hatch on the RHS looks to have hydraulic suspension - a BX perhaps?

Not Mine Alec from Geograph, a site where members of the public send in their images for every 1km Square in the Country and make them available on a Creative Commons Licence for use. Fantastic resource.

Click on this and it takes you to the site. Yes it does look like a BX.

That coach is a Bedford Duple from around the late 1950s.

The Knighton bus was tracked down and was as you say, but just slipped into 1960 at first registration.
Image

The location is Knighton in Wales, which fits, and according to comments at the time was to be restored to a non-passenger carrying purpose. Identified as 800 HYD formerly owned by Bryant and Clarke of Williton which I presume is Somerset.

Registration...800 HYD
Chassis..........Bd SB3 80549
Seating..........C41F
New...............07/1960
Body..............DU 1120/541
This is what it might have looked like with it's full clothes on..

Due to a rather sore shoulder today I am not going loft diving, so my Radnorshire pictures will not be forthcoming. Hence should anyone want to move it on please don't wait for them!! :-D

Yes I never quite managed to get my Scottish Rail Rover Holiday 1965 ish slides out of storage into the projector and photographing the screen for the observation car pics up to Oban. If the edit button remains alive for a little while I may edit them in later, so as not to spoil the perfection of "clean County Days in the sun" when the archaeologists in a few centuries time dig up our posts. Bet those Romans at Vindolanda wouldn't have thought their scribblings on tablets of their trivialities would be so treasured in 2022.

Yes, Radnorshire needs an allotted time of a minimum of a "day-ish" in the sun. So while some barrel scraping may be required, I think it deserves a run until 5.30 pm today :-D .

Does Radnorshire have any decent breweries/beers or places to drink and eat? Or just as interesting, any totally unappealing dives in one-horse towns?

I know we had a light lunch in a very popular eatery where we were squeezed in to the window-seat next to perfect strangers.

It was the hardware/ironmongery shop in Knighton near the clock tower just up from the BX! The quaint thing about it was the baked potato oven wasn't in the "kitchen" but in the shop itself!

When in Llandrindodd at The Metropole we used to frequent a pub down the road which has become a better class inn nowadays. I have stayed there sometimes when the budget wasn't up to Metropole demands and like it very much:

While noseing around looking for the Llanerch I came across this traditional map of Radnorshire which I found quite fascinating. It seems the county was originally divided into 'hundreds' and I wonder how they were determined? :?: :-D

Of course Radnorshire has now been swallowed up by Powys so some amusement can be found in trying to draw Radnorshire onto a map of Powys:
