Imterior spot lamps stopped working

Unread post by tizdaz »

Hi guys, my interior spot lights (map reading lamps?) Have stopped working, my car is a 2014 grand picasso, the main light which is inbetween the spot lamps still works for tge driver and passenger rows, but the spot lamps on both rows are not working along with the glove compartment lamps. Ive checked bulbs and its not the bulbs, ive yet to check fuse which i shall do tonight.

Any ideas!? Also is the fuse the same fuse for the main lamps which are still working, or is it different fuses?

Thanks guys!

It may sound like a stupid question, but have you tried those lamps at night?

I also thought that my C5 reading and glove compartment lamps weren't working and I have tried a bunch of stuff, but everything looked ok.
I was new to the "modern" car world and didn't know that reading lights are only working when the light sensor "says" that there is no/low outside light. At least in my car. :)

It was summer and I drove my car only during the daylight, so I didn't find out that the lamps were working until I accidentally turned them on in the garage.
I didn't realise the connection with the light sensor right away. I thought it was some wiring issue that has "fixed" itself from bumpy roads. :D

I'll need your VIN to check electronic architecture and options, but this seems a common failure. Once I have your VIN I'll confirm the correct fuse.

hi guys!

Ok i decided to check the fuses...

I have to say, the design layout of this car is absolutely shocking (Grand Picasso 1.6 eHDI 2014) & this includes the location of fuse board(s), in the past with other vehicles it was a matter of remove a cover panel & you have simple/easy access to each fuse etc, but with this Citroen, You have to basically remove the whole glove box, some other panels & then i had to unclip a couple of wiring looms as the fuse board is tucked away right behind all the wiring etc and then you just about have access to some of the fuses, luckily the fuse that had blown was on this board albeit right at the top which was a bugger to get to! , because to what i could make out, there was another fuse board UNDER this one which i would have had no idea how to get to it, shocking design, i can only assume Citroen decided to make it this way on purpose to force customers to go dealer to have a fuse changed which would cost them!!

Anyway... just an update, after looking for hours online to try find a fuse layout diagram online (to no avail!) i decided to just remove each fuse 1 by 1 until i hopefully found one that was blown..... & i did :)

It seems that one of the LED bulbs i fit into the middle row lighting was faulty, because as soon i changed the fuse & tested each switch one by one, as soon i got to this particular bulb, it blew the fuse again! ...so i replaced bulb with another new one & all is good now.

@ dulenator
Yeh i get what you mean, the light is very difficult to see during day time! but i tested at night time so was 100% sure it was faulty :(

I put a location of one of these fuse boxes up on your other post regarding the door mirror controls.

But regarding the LEDs, some cheap ones will cause you problems. This is the second or third time I've seen LEDs cause circuit issues. If replacing interior LEDs always get some CANBUS ones and be careful as the polarity on some LEDs has to be the correct way round to work. Try and get some decent LEDs with better protection if going this route.
