Wiring a sub into a Citroen c3 2014

Unread post by Simonbidd73 »

Hi,

My gf has a Citroen c3 2014 with a factory fitted stereo.

I wanted to wire a sub and amp into the head unit.

I've managed to thread the red positive wire thru the Bonnet cable release hole into the engine and onto the battery.

I've grounded the amp onto the chassis on the boot.

I have an RCA convertor for the RCA input from head unit into sub.

The problem I have and I'm getting baffled.. Where do I plug the remote wire onto the head unit.

I've put it on an orange wire and that worked and stopped working and when it worked the amp stayed constantly on.
So I tried another orange wire (thinner one) and that worked for, a bit then stopped.

I also put the speaker wires into firstly the thicker brown and purple wires which produced small sound in the sub. The I tried the smaller orange wire and it worked well.

Now it doesn't work at all.
I've checked fuses, earthing point, battery connection and I'm thinking it's the pissing remote wire...

So basically

Where do I put the blue remote wire on the head unit, the speaker wires and the ground for the RCA convertor.

I'm totally baffled and managed to wire up subs on insignia, Mondeo and freelancer, but this Citroen has baffled me...

Many thanks in advance

If i was going to the bother of putting a sub in this car i would probably have went for a half decent aftermarket head unit too.
As for the remote wire, just wire it to an igntion live like the 12v socket. I.ve not looked at the wiring diagram for this but it likely wont have an amp switch output on the head unit.

Thank you, I have an after market stereo but she wants to keep the original c3 head unit and won't budge on it. .

I was thinking about getting a cheap iso harness just to see what colour is what in the Citroen wiring but not sure if this would work..

thank you for the reply..
I'll have another go tomorrow.
It works for a bit then decides not to..

Be aware that Citroen don't consistently follow a wire colouring scheme. However, the wires all have a unique code printed on them at regular intervals, so this is what you need to look out for.

Hi thank you for reply and I have painfully realised that colour codes on Citroen are unique.

So I was thinking in order to stay away from the loom of chaos.
Would this work do u rhink?

If I put the remote on the positive of the cigarette lighter or USB socket as I'm thinking that turns on and off with the car, thus producing a way to make the, sub go off and on with the ignition.

The ground I'll just ground into an earthing point like the handbrake.

The positive red wire that goes to the battery... If anyone is wondering how to get into a Citroen engine form inside the car.. The bonnet release cable is the, way to go...

And them all I need to do is figure out which ones are the, speaker wires.
I was thinking of taking the, door panel off to have a look at one of the speakers, but (-expletive removed-) that the door panels have no screws and that looks like a lot of extra work to me...

If I succeed I'll post it on here ...

Thank you for the reply..

Thats correct, it just means the ignition will turn on the amp rather than the stereo, Alternatively you could put it on a separate dedicated switch if you preferred.

It did work and it runs and sounds good..

But I still have a problem.

I can turn ignition off and on again and it still works. I can take keys out local the door go back in turn ignition and it still works.

But if the insteent panel display goes off (miles and trip meter) if left for a few mins. Then go back to the car and turn ignition on there's no sound running they the sub.

The green light comes on, on the amp...

But if I disconnect my speaker wire (which is joined to the RCA Splitter) and then reconnect it. It all works again... Until the car is left and all the display goes off (miles clock) and them if I disconnect speaker wire and reconnect it's all good again.

Connections are solid and good.

I k ow it's a speaker wire as

1. I get sound they the amp
2. If I disconnect t the speaker wire the in car speaker don't work.

Weird.
