I too remember shedding a tear when I watched her departure from Devonport on the news. I was actually staying at my sister's house in Ilfracombe at the time and contemplated driving down to wave her off. Sadly the opportunity was lost when my brorher-in-law's car, an Austin Princess, decided to throw a wobbly and overheat on his way to Barnstable and I had to go and rescue him. His bottom hose had split and dumped his antifreeze all over the road!! A new hose and refill enabled a tentative restart, anticipating a head gasket problem but all seemed ok. So trip to Devonport wiped out and we sat and watched it on the local tv news, Westward Tonight or similar I think it was called!! :-D

Aa an aside I also shed a tear when my mate Dave (mancave man) and I went to Heathrow to watch the final takeoff of Concorde bound for Bristol if I remember correctly!

and just before Wigtownshire completes its day in the spotlight, a look at the rather sparse Beer Scene.

Only 2 Breweries on the CAMRA map from their "Full Pint" Spring 2022 publication.

It appears that the county flag for Perthshire is still under review so it may be inaccurate to post it here. However there is some interesting stuff on the county flag website:

Perthshire

Lost a fair collection of images due to an external hard drive going kaput including my ascent of Ben Lawers in Perthshire but do have a one "image tarting about withs" from that ascent saved to the "one-drive" out there in the ether somewhere. I do have a prospecting find of a piece of quartz rock which I consider in a certain light has a faint streak of gold in it, from a burn half way up!

...and a link to Morris Leslie

"In 1997 Perth Airport was purchased by the Morris Leslie Group. " Its different from Errol Airport where they hold the classic auctions which is a bit further east along the Tay.

I thought Perth Airport was familiar. We booked to stay at Perth Airport the grandiosely named Sky Lodge, selected as always for its bargain basement-ness and its special deal, rather than any desire for anything other than basic clean accommodation as a stop off heading down South.

Perthshire Micro Quiz

Took this image of a plane, at Errol Airfield Perthshire in May 2016.

What make/model is this plane :?:

I don't know but hopefully there are enough numbers in the image to nail it down precisely.

A brief recap

There are 92 historic counties in England Scotland Wales and Northern Ireland, each will have a mere day-ish in the spotlight selected at random using these tools
Here's the tool
https://www.random.org/
Here's the pool
Spoiler: show
Image
So far 9 counties have had their day in the spotlight. Cornwall, Leicestershire, Dorset, Cumberland, Angus, Sutherland, Suffolk, Oxfordshire, and Wigtownshire

Currently todays 10th County in the spotlight, selected at random from the 92 is Perthshire.

The more participants participating the more enjoyable the thread in my opinion, so if you haven't made your Perthshire deposit yet please do. Even if its just "Never been there know nowt about it".

Regards Neil

PS just to keep it visual here's another distinctive shaped and interestingly named mountain, and the one of 2 Munro's both in Perthshire that I have personally been to the summit of...Schiehallion overlooking Loch Tummel Perthshire
