Hello!
I stumbled upon an almost rustfree 1993 TZD that had been resting for some years for less than 200 euros some months back. I had No real plan to become a french car owner again But the price was right and the car was charming and soon to be tax free so I Thought What the hell. Since that I’ve bypassed the leaking octopus, changed the cam belt, installed an engine heater (i’m in the north) and a temperature gauge among other things. The car is rather healthy But has apparently been owned by a so called handy man who’d dug into the electrics in a rather frightening way. I tidied some stuff up and left some unattended. The car has transported me to and back from work for 15 000 km now and I kind of like it alot.
Now to my actual question:
I’ve been irritated with the Dead tachometer. One time it suddenly came to life for maybe a minute (Not accurate though) But apart from that it’s been Dead from day one. I tried cleaning the Old sensor to No avail and the other day i ordered a new one. Of course the connection was wrong (my car is private import so maybe that’s why) But it was quite easy to fix. I disconnected the Old one and plugged this one in. And it worked! Fantastic. Now it was time to take away the Old one from the engine bay. This is when i realized i’d plugged it in the wrong connector. The one I had put it in went to another place in the same hard to get to area of the rear part of the engine. There was No function that had disappeared so I’m really confused here. Can someone with a big brain share an intelligent Thought here?
The connection were I put it is a Three cable box with Two Brown cables close to the battery/hydraulic pump. The connection were the Old one was connected is an identical three cable box with one black, one red and one green cable that sits on the valve cover.
Wish you all a Nice weekend!

Re: BX TZD tachometer
Welcome!
20 years since I had a BX TD, but one of the gauges should show oil level at key on. I can't remember if they had oil pressure or temperature... It should light up for 15 or so seconds at key on and give the oil level. This is probably what the other wire is for.

Hmm. It seems like it was plugged in wrong before. https://bxclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12984
