406 Exhaust

Post by krissyn »

I've just replaced the exhaust (mid and rear sections) whilst undoing the clamps what looks like an earthing strap broke off (slapped wrists). Does this need to be refitted? Is it really needed?

I would re-fit it, just in case its needed for the oxygen sensor.

Isn't this a static line to stop you getting a shock when getting out of your car? I noticed when mine snapped off and I left it loose, I kept getting shocked when I touched the drivers door when I was getting out, but since i've re-connected it, I dont get shocked!?!

Which section of exhaust is this earthing strap on? I get shocked when getting out of my car, but only with two of my four pair of shoes, so I had put it down to the soles of the shoes being "insulated". I don't remember seeing an earthing strap when I changed my exhaust.

The strap is between the front and middle section, bolted onto the exhaust clamp. It isn't fitted on all models - don't know which.
I've not noticed any shocks when getting in or out, nor can I see it in any parts catalogues.
