London to Brighton 2cv convoy

Unread post by adamskibx »

Is anyone going to this? A friend of mine with a Beachcomber is going on it and i think im going via BX to Brighton for the event after the convoy. I seemed to remember its pretty good and theres usually one or two other types of Citroen there too if I remember rightly.

Not going this Time Im afraid, bit of a long round trip from here, also trying to get at least one 2CV/Dyane shaped car properly sorted for the long haul up to scotland in july for the world meeting.
Have fun though.

Cheers Matt- It should be a nice day. Good luck with whichever a series you decide to get going. Im hoping to make the World meeting in Scotland too- think ill probably get a lift in my friends Beechcomber for that as he wants to go too. Ill hopefully speak to you before then about the Dyane anyway. Im going to be back in Dyane terratory on the 7th of June for a few weeks so you could come and get it sometime then if you still want it then. Regards, Adam

Well that was well worth it. Loads of 2cv's, Dyanes, a few Ami's and an Ami super, a nice GSA hatch, and a few more recent Citroens. Went to a campsite where a small percentage of them stayed- Basically a field at the back of a nice pub in the middle of nowhere 15 miles from Brighton. Id recomend it-cant wait for the Word Meeting in Scotland now. Should be absolutely massive from what ive heard from people.

Sorry, have only seen this now! It was great but the highlight for me was the RHD DS Decapotable which graced us. That's one expensive motor car!
Are you a member of 2CVGB Adam? Register's Day takes place near Huntingdon which is a big get together - the rarities usually come out for this one. We had three Bijoux last year.
That said, not long 'til the World Meeting is Scotland now. In France last month, there were 2000 cars. This should be beaten at the biggest event in the 2cv calendar so roll on July!

Oh whens registers day. I seemed to miss that amazing DS you speak of- I was quite late getting there. Im not a member of 2cvgb at the mo- I havent had an A-series for a while but I think the bug might be biting back after seeing all those! The World meeting will definately get me back into them i think! By christmas im sure ill be back on them. Id still have a 2CV now if mine wasnt nicked by kids in Bolton a few years back! It was completely solid and absolutely mint with a galvanised chassis. Blue and Cream too!!

Wanna go to scotland in a Dyane Adam? Assuming I have finished the red one, which should be possibble you are welcome to use it if you insure it.
Hows that for an offer? Least I can do in return for the Cote.

Wow that would be superb Matt- Are you going to be going? My mate with the 2cv Beechcomber booked his car in online today which was the last pre booking day i beleive. Im sure you can get tickets at the gate though I dont know how much they are.
That would be more than a suitable trade for the Cote D' Azure Matt!

No problem, Its not far off done, Bit of welding, brakes pipes and an exhaust should suffice for the MOT. Dont see why i cant fit that in.
Doing my 2CV this week though.
Only thing is it may have some different coloured front panels and not be totally red :-)
I will keep you posted.
We will be there ourselves (me and other half, kids didnt fancy it, silly kids) 2CV will be pulling the trailer tent up there :-)
Yes you can enter on the gate, believe it a bit more expensive than pre-registering but hey, still a cheap weeks do, and jolly good fun.

Adam - on the gate (in a 2cv or derivative) is £60 which is £8 more than if you'd got ahead of the deadline - not too bad in the scheme of things. Glad to hear we are drawing you back in!!
Register's Day is 3rd July with camping all weekend.
Just remember - you can in a tin can!

Stinkwheel, why is the world meeting for the 2CV being held in Scotland? I mean surely somewhere more central in Europe would be better for all parties and what with it being made in France? :)

Hello,
well the simpleanswer is its inlots of different places. I think world meetings are held every 4 years (but it may be 2 - I've a shocking memory, Ian will put me right) Anyway for instance, Orleans in France 1989 Greece 1999, Italy was the last one, Britain is holding this years, and scotland is where they decided upon.
Last Time britain had one was 1985 and was held in Cheltenham, so twenty years ago then :-)
Basically similar to the olympics, country that wants to host apllies through its main 2CV club and waits to hear. Basically all countrys that have not hosted as yet have first dibs on it but if they dont want cant afford its given to the next best applicant.
That any help?

I was at the French National earlier this year. That's an annual one and was huge with 2000 cars present. World Meeting is bigger and as Matt says, it changes country every TWO years. Missing from the list were Slovenia in 95, Holland in 97 and Austria in 2001. I haven't been to a World Meeting yet though so I'm looking forward to Scotland. We've even had people book from Japan!
This is the link to the people who have already booked - should get more on the gate >>> http://www.2cvgb.co.uk/site_extras_fold ... ebook.html
20 years since the launch of the Dolly so I need to arrange a Dolly party. Where can I buy jelly and ice cream up there? Us 2cv'ers know how to have fun!
