My brakes moo! - Citroen Xsara Picassso - Lucas brakes

Unread post by Moog »

Hi,

I wonder if anyone else has encountered this before? The front discs and pads were new last year - both Apec brand. I've now put in new sliding pins and greased them with the grease supplied. But, still my brakes make a mooing noise from the front when slowing down. The pads are only 8 months old and have very little wear - the discs too.

There's no vibration through the pedal at all and the brakes seem to work ok - although I THINK they pull to right slightly 'sometimes' but it just passed the MOT.

I can only think that a caliper is seizing up a bit - would that make sense?

OR could it be the Apec pads have more metal in them than other brands and that's making the sound? I've found some ATE pads - are they likely to better?

A friend suggested perhaps a wheel bearing is on its way out but there's no rumble or change of pitch during driving.

Sorry - lots of questions there!

Many thanks :)

Could be lots of reasons, caliper could be binding so not fully releasing, the discs and or pads may not be the correct part for your vehicle, or the disc may have been slightly warped (especially if the discs are hot and you have gone through a deep puddle or deep water) or a part of the front axle geometry like the front hub bearing.

Discs and pads are specific to the engine model.

Many thanks. I've got a feeling it could be a sticking caliper as sometimes is pulls slightly to one side when braking but not always - bit like it's slower than the other side but then catches up.
Mind you, they've done 96k miles and I'm driving less as my company has closed it offices and we work from home full-time.

Had to give the VIN number last time to get the correct ones after being given the wrong pags first time, so I'm guessing they're correct now.

All the best,

If you haven't already asked for official parts numbers, just ask for what you need here:
