C5 X7: bending jacking points - A SOLUTION (?)

Unread post by marsalek »

Dear colleagues,

on my C5 X7 three of four jacking points repeatedly bent, even though I have been using the proper C5 jack with the groove. As the HDi240 is quite heavy, the jacking points do bend again and again.

Using a rubber pad with a groove did not help, as this groove does not STABILISE the repeatedly bending lip. So I decided to weld a fixture that keeps the jacking lip from bending by fixing it to a jack.
What came out is on the pictures below.

You can get the rubber pad with a deeper groove for PSA cars so that the lifting is done on either side of the groove against the sill rather than the lip. Or you can cut the groove deeper on an ordinary one as I did.

Nice idea, to keep the lip straight and vertical.
Personally, I just avoid all jacking under these fore and aft points on Citroens, and use a trolley jack under subframes or suspension. Have a compact 85mm min-height trolley jack in each of the two cars now for effortless lifting. Handy when helping others out too.

Great idea!
I had similar problem using official jack that came with the car and its been on my to do list to bash the lip straight again for a while.

A bent sill lip can be made vertical and straight again by squeezing it in an engineer's vise, sat on a trolley jack.
Easy to lift to required height, squeeze, and then move along.
Avoids haphazard whacking.

I used a 12" adjustable spanner. Smooth jaws, no serrations. I closed the jaws on the bent lip and then worked my way along straightening as I went. If I hadn't straightened it up enough I would close the jaws a bit more and work my way along again. I don't use Molegrips!

Have done that too, Paul, for really badly flattened sections.
