Stop light relay?

Unread post by Benita »

Hello again

I have another weirdo!
Sometimes when I use the footbrake there is a faint whining/humming sound in the cab.
For want of a better description it sounds like a very quiet humming top.
My guess is it is a relay starting to fail.
This is based on the fact that I used to be an electrician and
I have heard relays make similar noises before they fail.
The problem is I can't locate any relays.
The handbook does not seem to contain any info on relays.
I have looked in the fuse box under the dash below the steering wheel.
According to the handbook there i another fuse box somewhere on the
passenger side but I can't locate it to see if any relays are in there.
Anyone any ideas?
Thanks again

Most relays on this vehicle will be soldered onto the BSI & BSM.
However I don’t believe there is a relay on the brake light circuit anyway.

Is this Relay with cruise control? It makes a difference where the switch is and what can you get to replace it. It's a challenging process, but with some filing of a gap or slot above the switch, it's doable. It's probably simpler if you remove the lower dash on the driver's side first, but can you do it on your vehicle?
Remove the lower steering column shroud first before removing the lower dash. (4 PZ2 headed screws, and simpler to engage the driver in the screw head if a small length of 6mm or equivalent tubing may be fitted across the driver shaft.)
With the shroud removed, the lower dash retention screws - six T20 and one H5 headed screw - may be removed.

Thank you both for the information.

It sounds very complicated.
I have had this intermittent noise for some months now and nothing seems to
have got worse so I think I will just wait for something to fail and fix it then.
Thanks

I think to is more likely to be an ABS component that you are hearing.
