Re: Picture(s) of the day....
An exceedingly sad POTD for me today. On my way home from Elstree I had the need to stop in an exceedingly quiet lane at a layby I know to visit a favourite tree of mine. Imagine my anger when I found someone had beaten me to it, even battered the sign on the right!!!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Despicable when councils offer so many options to take care of unwanted items.
I'm sure it would be simpler to take that stuff to the tip than do what they have done.
The laziness and disregard for others is astounding.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
While I agree completely with your sentiment our council have made rods for their own back. The broken paving is classed as building matter and must be taken to the commercial yard where there is a fee. Our recycling centres charge for anyone using a van over doblo size and they are only open 3 days a week!!

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Agree that that is very poor service and completely different to ours.
They do their best to make it simple, the staff at the recycling centre are very helpful.
Currently there is a booking system. Go to their website, enter your vehicle registration and the time you want to go. If it is free you have a half hour window to turn up. No limit on the time you are at the site.
As with most places, vans need a commercial licence but it isn't expensive.
For domestic customers without the wherewithal to transport bulky items, ring the council, describe the items and location and it will be removed in a couple of days. There is a charge. £10 currently for around five large items. Often cheaper than taking it yourself.
The tip is only a couple of miles from me so very convenient, I pass it on the way to my youngest daughter's place.
She has done a lot of renovations and they are on first name terms with her she has been so often.
Open every day, from 07:00 until it gets dark, so about 17:00 currently but 22:00 in summer.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Oddly enough I have just been using what3words.
My youngest's Megane was supposed to have been MOT'd but the parts went missing.
She has dumped it in the little car park behind my house and taken her elder sister's C3 (sister in hospital, can't use it).
Washington is notoriously difficult to navigate and the car park not at all obvious so did the w3w for him to locate it to fit the bits, or take it away or whatever.
Leaving me carless as #2 son is away with the Civic.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Looking at yours Neil, I must go to reefers.arranges.bonkers again, it has been years.
We used to take the kids there. Was nice there, lots of dragonflies.
Coincidentally, I worked with a bloke who's dad was the civil engineer who designed the centrepiece.
He was Indian, evacuated from Burma in WWII.
With a very non-Indian name.

I was near to Beaconsfield today (dealing with the consequences of an incompetent electrician!), and I spotted a couple of clumps of Primroses.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
The actual Road. There is a full width pavement a strip at the side and marked "bays" on the road for the half on half off parking. First time I had seen that signNewcastleFalcon wrote: 14 Feb 2022, 21:23 Monday's picture of the day offering,

It was in reference to the parking on pavements, which should have a sentence commensurate with that of William Wallace, as portrayed by the Mad Max geezer who's name escapes me.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
A little help from me for what appears to be the most difficult question on TV Quiz Programmes, including the higher echelon of University Challenge and Mastermind.
Yes...What is the River That flows through Durham City....
Got a "pass" on Mastermind last night...
Its the River...
