DS3 Crossback passenger door handle stuck in open position

Post by z1mo »

Hi guys!

This my first post on the forum and I need your help!

Today I experienced my first problem with the DS after almost 3 years of ownership

After a long trip (about 1000km) I realised that the passenger door handle was stuck in open position... I'm sure that I wasnt driving with it like that whole trip.

When I push it in and then unlock the door it pops out as it should but it stays that way when i start moving (instead of being flush)... so I dont think the failure is mechanical (hopefully).

Has anyone ever had any problems with those doorhandles?

Any help will be appreciated!

Cheers from Croatia!

Internal or external door handle?

External door handle. I forgot to mention that.

So normally when you unlock the car all handles pop out and when you start moving or lock the car they go inside the bodywork.

In my case all of them go inside except the passenger one. It stays fully extended when I start driving and when I turn the car off and lock it.

I suggest you get it back to the dealer a bit quick as it should still be under warranty being April 2019 (assuming you have the 2 year DS Manufacturer warranty and a third year with the dealer). I know not all countries outside the UK have the 3 year warranty. Even if not, it may be worth trying to get it sorted. The retractable door handle may have a faulty / worn motor. It shouldn't impact the door locking - but will just be annoying when it doesn't close flush.

Yeah I didnt get the dealer warranty as I bought the car in Italy and imported it to Croatia (they didnt open a dealership here) and my DS warranty expired in October. It's interesting how the motor pushes the handle out but doesnt retract it.

I don't know if it would be worth using a little silicone oil spray with a tube (not WD40) if you can see inside the recess when the handle is extended. It may be water ingress that is affecting the retraction. Pressure washers are your worst nightmare, so if using these, avoid spraying close up near the handles - as it can force water inside and then you'll have issues.

If you go to Screwfix Direct you can get this for £3.41. I had to use it on my front safety belts recently, and it works well;

Heh, sorry to hear the problem. Had a DS3 Crosback since new (La Premiere) and never experienced this. If the motor is working sounds like it is out of synchronisation. When you lock and unlock the car does it act the same as the others or the opposite?

When I unlock the car the handle opens like there is no problem. It is not out of sync with others... they all open at the same time. Today the handle closed on its own 3 times in a row but got stuck again. I've seen that people have problems with those retractable handles in some Facebook groups and that they replaced them under warranty. I might disassemble the door and see if anything is wrong with the whole mechanism from the inside during the weekend if I find enough time. I'll post some updates if there is something interesting and maybe useful for other owners.

Just a quick update.... it all resolved on its own and the door handle retracts itself normally 😅

Is it still working ? I bought my ds3 crossback la premiere in 2019 summer. My door handles is sometimes working, sometimes not working. I went my service and they said, you have to change your door handle. Do you have a suggestion for an easier and more practical solution?

Just got the same issue now with mine - NSR door.
interesting the DS website states "The components within the door are sealed so they're not effected by dust or grease. And they're resistant to temperature changes. They've also been designed to last the lifetime of DS3 Crossback. Obviously, our engineers have put the door handles through an extensive testing process. This has included injecting water between the handle and door and freezing it to see what happens."
