Cleaning injectors in-place with diesel purge.

Unread post by unaszplodr »

Hello all,

I bought a 2011 Partner blind after my Kangoo suddenly died (I needed a replacement for work immediately) and am finding it to be a bit lumpy at idle. Throttle response is also a bit uneven and it will occasionally falter when I ask for a lot of torque after hill-starting or whatever. I checked the codes and found P0266 (Cylinder 2 Contribution/Balance Code) stored, with faults on two other cylinders pending. The service history suggests it has been used as a run-around for the past couple of years and there's no other codes stored to suggest the injectors are bad, so I'm hoping that running some diesel purge through them will solve the issue.

It looks like it would best to hook into the fuel lines where they would otherwise connect to the fuel filter, loop the filter back on itself and then run the engine from a bottle of diesel purge, with a filter on the return to the bottle. My question is what male connectors should I use to connect my nylon lines to the female quick release connectors that would otherwise be hooked up to the fuel filter? I'm guessing this is right part -- https://www.amazon.co.uk/AUTOHAUX-7-89m ... B0859DBG9Y -- but I'm a noob. Will I get a decent enough seal if use those? Do I need something else?

Thanks in advance for any guidance offered!

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

I wouldn't go to all that trouble, but just get hold of some good diesel system cleaner (I can recommend Wynn's Diesel Treatment, Miller's Diesel Power Plus, or 3CV Diesel Treatment) and do a "remedial clean". This usually simply involves adding to the main tank at a concentration of 1:200, and running the car on that. Add to the tank when it's pretty empty, and mix in by adding fuel to the required quantity.

It's a progressive cleaning agent, which will not harm seals and pipework. You can then add at 1:1000 for a couple of tankfuls. This should produce results, and clean up pipework, filter, pump and injectors. You should find low-down torque improves.

If the car has done topside of 60-80k miles, it might be worth getting the injectors cleaned/recalibrated by a specialist diesel workshop.

Hi, and :welc: to the Forum.

I have used Wynn's in the past, and it is a good product. Last time I got some from ebay I got three bottles for around £14, which is a good price.

Thanks for welcome!

Its got 103k on the clock. From what I've read, some of the 2011 Berlingos and Partners have dodgy injectors, but I'm only seeing the 'contribution/balance' faults so fingers crossed that they're just getting a bit clogged. At first I thought I was just driving it badly -- I'm used to the short gears and impressive torque of the old Kangoo 1.5 DCI -- but now I'm certain it just isn't running right. I've got Miller's Diesel Power Ecomax additive in there at the moment, which seems to have helped a little. It's no longer threatening to crap out when reversing uphill, at least!

I've got a couple of weeks left on the warranty, so I'm just keen to eliminate the possibility of a more serious problem with the injection system in the meantime. I may just run Liqui Moly through the system via the fuel filter using some standard fuel hose and jubilee clips. That's probably a good balance between faff and effectiveness. I'd like to save another trip to the diesel specialist; I've only just payed him to diagnose a Kangoo with an hp pump that had shredded itself and took out all the injectors with it...
