Thanks Bobins, I think that was the whiff I was recalling :-D
NewcastleFalcon wrote: 01 Nov 2021, 17:14 Max Richter was not a kick in the pants away from being given the honour of debuting on the First Day thread with his composition "November" performed at the Forbidden City Beijing, and featuring Norwegian Violinist Mari Samuelson.
accompanied by the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Long Yu.

Luckily for him, autoplay did what autoplay does, and along popped another of his compositions, bit easier to get into, and more relaxing. "On the nature of Daylight"

Sombre, but relaxing. One for the Snug, a glass of brandy, and a crackling fire.

Worth a revival from the archives. Appeared on an episode of "Two doors down" the Scottish sit-com.

There are quite a number of people who use the Shipping Forecast for its soporific effect...relaxing and soothing including the theme "Sailing By" written by Ronald Binge (excellent name!)

They interviewed Lorraine Crosby on Radio Newcastle. A geordie lass, she did the female vocals on this from Bat out of Hell II. The lady in this video is not Lorraine. Lorraine was credited as Mrs Loud on the original album. The Actress who appears in the video is Dana Patrick who lip synched the song. Video starts at the female part.

In a few clicks of random connection, from Principal Edwards, to Nantucket Sleighride (a previous FCF appearer in connection with the section used for the theme tune for Weekend World with Brian Walden) and the wiki page of the Story of Nantucket Sleighride (interesting in its own right... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nantucket ... de_(album) ) to mention of "A Parting Glass" the melody of which appears in a section of Nantucket Sleighride. Many, many versions including a pre-mega Ed Sheeran, but I've selected Celtic Woman.

A curiosity for the Pickled Egg Jukebox

I wonder if Ella Fitzgerald did a version of Jumpin' Jack Flash :?:
Spoiler: show
Of course not...

...but she did give this one from Cream a whirl, as chosen by the artist Yola on tracks of my years on Radio 2 the other day

Another curiosity, for some reason on 1st February 2005 Elvis was at number 1 with a reissue of "Its Now or Never". Nice enough, bit of "O sole mio" in it.

Bit more energy in this though, which I discovered on a random link, while trying to come up with reason why Elvis was number 1 in 2005,

"Songs that Elvis should have sung" should wake up the Pickled Egg punters who should include at least one or 2 Elvis or AC/DC fans who know the song.

I came across this by chance this morning and I am amazed at the lad's voice, the production is awful both visually and audiowise but you can hear enough to get my point!! :-D

One thing that always appeals to me in a performance is sincerity and I came across this video of a well known artist and song which exhibits exactly the sincerity I am referring to. If you watch this back to back with Elvis' version you can hear the difference, for me Elvis is singing a song while Willie is telling a story!!

Further interesting stuff about Willie Nelson here.

I quite like the cover by Imelda May and some Italian bloke.

She looks better than Elvis and Willie too.

This is new though.

Never listened to the words of that although I liked it and a couple of others from Ziggy Stardust.
Not partial to Bowie though.

Talking about California on the other thread reminded me of this place which I visited. the place not the music venue.
A question came up from my niece "Where's Sausolito? when I was in Brisbane, she was playing some classical music in a school band and the teacher didn't know.
This ain't the classical stuff. :)

Plenty "Wind" selections for "Dudley" evening.

First one that comes to my mind is "Song of the Wind" from Santana's album Caravanserai...70's of course. Much gentler wind than the one blowing outside right now.
