First off you'll need to remove the door card:

Follow the BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure to disconnect and reconnect the battery.

Door Card

Remove:
  • The (2) bolt
  • The bezel (1)
  • The interior door handle control (3)
  • The reflector (4)
  • The 2 bolts (5)
  • The electrical control from the window lifter (Disconnect the connectors )
Unclip the trim (on the surround).
Remove the inner trim (6) (towards the top).

Refitting
Proceed in the reverse order to removal.
Note: When refitting the door trim, check the positioning of all the fastenings before clipping them in on the door.

Disconnect the connectors ( as "a", "b").Detach using trim removal tools:
  • The adhesive disc (1)
  • The sealing sheet (2)
Remove:
  • The grommet (3) using trim removal tools
  • The fixing nut (4)

Remove the exterior rear view mirror (5) (In the direction of the arrow "c").
Refitting
Proceed in the reverse order to removal.
Note: Take care with the routing of the electrical harness of the exterior rear view mirror (5).
Tighten the nut (4) to 1.2 m.daN.

Note: Check that the exterior mirror works correctly before refitting the door trim pad and always replace the adhesive pad (1) and the sealing sheet (2) if they are damaged.

Refit the door panel.

Hello all,

So, I have just been through 4 hours of hell replacing this wing mirror and feel it is worth pointing out where I failed, for the benefit of others:

I ordered a spare part online. Because of COVID, I was not able to inspect the part personally but the images were clear and showed that it was definitely from the same model of car. There was one slight difference (bar the colour) which I will mention shortly but even had I inspected the part in person, I probably would have no noticed it.

I took off the door panel as instructed above. Easy, less than 5 minutes. The fixing nut proved difficult to remove, especially with my basic tools, but eventually I was able to remove the old mirror.

Fitting the new one would have been easy BUT the one difference was that the fixing nut hole in this mirror was approx 1mm narrower than the old mirror, so the fixing nut, which is effectively fixed to the body of the door, wouldn't fit!

So, as it was only the mirror part I needed to replace (not the bit with the indicator light) I though maybe the two parts of the mirror can be separated and yes! They can. A few clips here and 5 screws later, I have them apart. But, as the connectors for the electrics are soldered on AFTER they are threaded for the maze of holes inside the mirror, they can't be threaded back through so whilst the two parts of the mirror can be physically separated, they are left connected by the wires and electricals.

The result was that I decided to put the old one back on. My 7/32 socket slipped and became useless, so now I have an old, cracked mirror, half on. Not good. Luckily I have going in for a service in two days so maybe Citroën can either a) simply secure the old one (without sorting the broken glass and casing) or fit my new one by (somehow) replacing the fixing nut with a smaller one that will go in the new mirror's hole.

Why the two identical parts require different fixing nut sizes, I shall leave to someone 'in the know' to explain. It better be a good explanation!

Very likely because the mirrors changed from June 2009 and additionally, so did the fixings. They generally make improvements or slight equipment changes during the mid-life of the vehicle production, often as a result of previous issues or to cut down / add/ remove features.
