I suspect this one will be a background dabble from time to time. With other Trivia investigations overtaking it without this one being solved. Thing is its at ACA Auctions Kings Lynn end of the month, but the Church is not guaranteed to be in or near Kings Lynn, or in Norfolk or surrounding nearby Counties. Definitely not taken at the Auction Site.

Requiring too much persistence and too much time for a normal "whatsthisthen?"

The church is called St Andrew's Church and can be found in Brettenham, Norfolk. Loads of information about it on the net but now it is identified anyone interested can pick your own sites from your search engine!!

Interestingly there is a very similar church called The Church of St Mary the Virgin in Brettenham Suffolk so easy to mix up the two as I did!!

You have done very well there MIck, I think its worthy of a disclosure of your methods. Conscientious bobbying or divine inspiration! (eg Phoning up ACA and asking where the church was!) I had an initial delve flint church Norfolk straight tower commonwealth war graves etc but was letting it lie. You have saved me a long search I think

I also searched flint churches in East Anglia and came up with some possibles. I then exchanged an email with a friend who lives in Norfolk and she was able to nail it for me!! No divine intervention, just a wide circle of contacts around the Southeast!

Yes as if any proof was needed, and for FCF viewers and active posters alike, should you have a bit of trivia that needs investigating...this is the thread to post it on!

Plenty credit to Mick for asking the question, but I like how the trivia investigation exited the FCF bubble into the real world of normal people to secure the right answer. Well done to your friend too Mick for joining in.

Following Neil's clock post on POTD I started thinking about the reality of a clock's hand positions. The propellor in Neil's picture has its 'hands' fixed at 120° so my thinking about the displayed time followed these lines. The minute hand crosses over the hour hand once an hour, so 12 times in a full rotation of the hour hand. Therefore it must lead the hour hand by 120° once every hour amd trail the hour hand by 120° once every hour
Therefore the hands are exactly 120° apart 24 times in any 12 hours. So given that one minute of movement means 6° for the minute hand and 0.5° for the hour hand when are the other 22 times that they are at 120° separation? { The first two being 4 o'clock and 8 o'clock!} If this is not trivia I don't know what is!

There was a question, "in which direction do a clock's hands turn?" to which the answer was "clockwise.
Alan Turin's answer to that was "Not if you're a clock."
Think about it.

I also get that. So the minute hand is 90 degrees from the prick of noon ( Romeo and Juliet Mercutio "The bawdy hand of the dial is now upon the prick of noon." Act 2,Scene 4Lines 95-99) The hour hand to show the 15 minutes has progressed past 11 by 1/4 of the 30 degrees between 11 and 12 with 3/4 of the 30 degrees ie 22.5 degrees to be added to the 90 degrees making an angle of 112.5 degrees.

An online calculator comes up with for 2.55, the angle of the hour/minute hands is 117.5 degrees

The minute hand will be 30 degrees away from the prick of noon, the hour hand will be (30/60 x 5) ie 2.5 degrees less than 90 degrees ie 87.5 degrees from noon. 87.5 plus 30 = 117.5 degrees.

That answers my question

Wonder if the simple calculator will help me with yours. Apparently the answer to how many times a day are all three hands of a clock (hour/minute/second hands) at 120 degrees is 44.

The calculations can get a little tricky for exactness.

For example 7hrs 16 minutes comes up with 122 degrees 7hrs 17 minutes comes up with 116.5 degrees.

At a particular second or fraction of a second between the 2 comes 120 degrees exactly.

So 7hrs 16.362 minutes comes up with 120.009 degrees...close enough.

So at 7:16:21.71 the hour hand and the minute hand will be at 120 degrees.

As the others may well use similar iteration in the absence of some mathematical formula method I will rest my case at this point.
