Citroen C5 X7 xenon projector

Post by nicu22dun »

Hello and happy new year everybody !! I have the following issue: My xenon projectors do not have brightness and I am really thinking about changing projectors with new ones or at least the mirror part of the projector but for that I need to know if somebody ever made this kind of stuff because I know that for some other makes there are "Hella type G5" projectors that fits with the original and the examples can continue. The main story is that I do not know any of that about this model ( C5 X7 2010 ). Anybody has any ideas ? Really wanna swap them with something new or the last thing that I can do is "respray" ( i dont want to respray, just saying ) the mirror with a specific material ( chrome or another thing - i do not really know what is optimal for extra mirror effect and that lasts for heat and UV ).
Thank you !!

I suggest you simply upgrade the xenon bulbs from the stock Osram to Osram Nightbreaker Xenarc D1S Bulbs. I did this on mine and not only was the light less 'yellow' but almost doubled the light output.

I would not suggest you do anything with the projectors - the headlamps are sealed units and if you take it apart, the seal will be useless.....

Plenty of options, just make sure they are road legal.

Ok, just a thought, are you sure they are not fakes? Genuine ones are only available from approved retail outlets, and ones from eBay and Amazon are notorious for inferior fakes. I paid about £130-£140 for 2 bulbs. Difference was amazing, and full beam was like a lighthouse. So you can understand why I asked....

Yep, even if they are fake and not original, I do not want originals ones because those are not for sale any way but I want a better light for at least 5 years.

I also bought 2x Osram Night Braker Laser ( 320 romanian lei - ~70 euros each ) but the light output is kind of the same as the old bulbs so that is why I`m not thinking about bulbs, car has only 10 years but it has 430k KM so at this stage I`m thinking that those projectors are cooked due to so much hours of functionality.

One of the HID lamps on my 3008 is noticeably dimmer than the other - even after fitting new bulbs. I am pretty sure the igniter/ballast is at fault, one day I will swap it side to side to see check the dimness moves. Genuine ballasts are nearly as much as bulbs unfortunately; although you can get cheap ones, my guess is they are no good.

That was going to be my next suggestion too - as it's the ballast job to start and maintain adequate voltage to the bulbs. Normally when the ballast is going it can result in dimming and possibly 'strobing', but also the bulb light output can decrease over time - more if they are switched on and off a lot (especially if switched on again whilst they are still hot). So for countries that have them switched on by default during the day like the Nordic countries, doing stop and start short journeys will also deplete them quicker.

Nobody here I'm aware of - probably because they won't be compatible (directional / headlamp ECU) even if you could attempt to remove them - which would be risky.
