206CC - moist carpets

Like a bad penny, I return again! (no French manufacturers represented at my house at the moment, but I think the current Dr Village's Toyota Yaris was built in France, just in case I need a tenuous link to the forum.... )

This time I'm here on behalf of my Dad (not computer savvy I'm afraid) and the wet carpets in the passenger side foot well in his 206 CC.

Is there a "usual suspect" for leaks in this area, i.e. a duff seal, and if so, what is the fix?

Well, does it smell a bit like curry? If it does, it probably means the heater matrix has failed. Other than that, I cannot offer any other suggestions.

Being a CC I reckon there is a high chance that this is more likely rainwater unfortunately. Of course checking the coolant level is not dropping first would be a good idea. Best bet is to get the carpets out then get the garden hose out.

just a mention not to try & cheat on drying out the carpet once you've sorted it.

There's probably a very soggy spongey layer of sound deadening underneath, so a hairdryer and a towel is unlikely to be sufficient. Remove the seat if need be [if some / all of the fixing bolts are visible underneath the car wire brush them first], pull the carpets up and be sure you're not storing up rust issues or nasty damp smells.

I'm not familiar with the 206cc, but if it is losing coolant I'd say Hell Razor's prediction of a knackered matrix is likely spot on

NB: don't overlook to disconnect the battery if you pull the seat out, it could have a dubrey to fire the airbag underneath it; which you don't want going off when you tilt it

Although it is best to remove the carpets for drying, it is not always convenient. On other PSA vehicles I have been able to dry the carpets by partially lifting them (remove the door sill trim holding the carpet down), putting a folded towel under the sound deadening and squzzing the carpet down against the towel to transfer most of the water to the towel, and then leave the carpet raised a little to allow air circulation for a few days.

The Peugeot service information does have a specific procedure for finding leaks on the 207 CC, but this consists in essence of spraying a garden hose on the outside of the car while someone sits in it looking for water ingress.

Good tips there folks, I shall get Pater to check the coolant level and give the carpets a sniff. I'll also get him to make sure that all the gutters and water channels are free of leaves, there are two big trees next to his parking space.

7 years later the cause for sea levels rising has been traced to this car.... wheres the update.....

The cause of the moistness was eventually traced to a thumping big rust hole in the bulkhead...

I found your post a good read till i got to the cliff hanger thanks for posting back , did you get the hole sorted ? Has the car gone or do you still own it ?

I've got the wonderful job when the weather gets better of checking both my 206cc & picasso as they both have dampness ive been using various methods to try dry them , tbh getting into a car with wet shoes don't really help this time of year.

The car was my Dad's, and upon further investigation it was decided that it was an uneconomical repair as he couldn't do the work himself, so he sold it on to a chap who had the time and skill to fix it for himself.

Dad replaced it with a VW Eos which is substantially less French as demonstrated by the fully functioning air-con and lack of spontaneously terminal rust......
