I would assume at least he got LEDs and no incandescent lights. If it's LEDs, the electric bill will not be impacted.

A landmark approaches, 8,000 contributions to the Picture of The Day thread. It's currently in the nervous 7990's.
It is the most contributed to, and most viewed thread on the FCF.

So have a think and click those cameras and phones and post up some original photography to mark the landmark.

As ever POTD is not a photography contest, there is no threshold of photographic skill, or interestingness to join-in.

I cant think of a good reason not to, its easy. So if you haven't before, give it a go.

It doesn't even have to be a picture taken on the day although I always think that gives it a small bit of extra kudos.

So I took my camera out to see what the winter garden scene was and found this eerie winter dusk light, the second picture is from full daylight in the summer to try and illustrate the difference!! :-D

Kudos picture...Eerie light indeed, quite a spectacular sky just before the darkness fell. More 14th December shutter clicks from Northumberland.

Broken spring on daughter's C3.
Two buggered tyres, one was new, had to fit it to get home.
Fitted my winter tyres yesterday. Took off the Michelin Primacy's. Glad they are off. They were noisy as hell for summer tyres. Fitted Barum winter grips and immediately noticed less noise - especially in electric mode. I gave away my noise meter to a competitor friend of mine so I haven't been able measure the noise levels but I reckon it could easily be 2 to 4 db inside the car. Not much but enough to notice. If someone can explain it I would be intrigued.

As I understand it an increase of 3db is a doubling of the volume.

I take it you mean 2-4 db lower? I have downloaded a soundmeter app to the phone which works fairly well from ambient to 120dB which as you will be aware from scrutineering days is well above the levels we can tolerate so should be good enough for you to make some measurements. I found it in the playstore on my Android phone!! :-D

Yes I know about that app, thanks, but my "Ear Crometer" has always been quite reliable - especially when trying to track down noises on cars over the years. Besides, car noise is often subjective rather than precise. It may be that I just don't like the Michelins and they were always going to a "Pain". The Michelins are 17" but the Barums (and all my previous 2 sets of wintergrips ) are 16". That may be the basis of it.

Without doubt when I got my Legacy and dropped down from 17" to 16" wheels the resulting increase in sidewall height improved both the ride and the running noise. Presumably the deeper sidewall allows the tread produced sound waves to deteriorate more before transferring them to the actual wheels resulting in a lower amplitude wave which is of course quieter!! :)

There is always tremendous interest for me in discovery of the hidden secrets and history of places both on the doorstep, and across the country. So my interest was perked with Historic England's annual list of new listings, and the selection pulled out, for this article on their website.
Lovely images of

the Brown Jug Public House at Broadstairs
Police Box, Newtown Linfold, Leicestershire
Selby Canal Tunnels North Yorkshire
The Fosse Way Bridge Gloucestershire
Former Picture Palace Prescott Merseyside
Shoreham Memorial Cross Sevenoaks
Selworthy Farm, Holnicote Estate, Somerset
Skerne railway bridge, Darlington, County Durham
to
Mud Walls, Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire
...and many more

This seems an ideal theme to use for a 2022 FCF picture challenge Neil!! With the AA Box challenge being almost complete, other than Jersey of course, I think it could be the 2022 FCF Photography Trail inviting member's original pictures from the list you compiled, or maybe even an expanded version? Just needs someone to set it up!! :-D

You may be interested in this set of books Neil. I am bidding on a few other lots in the sale so it is highly likely that I will be going to collect, in which case I could collect for you and then send them up to you if you fancy a bid!! :-D

I'd definitely have a browse of them if they were sat on my coffee table, but I think I need to dispose of the books I have acquired, rather than add to them. :-D Thanks for your kind offer, but I'll not take you up on it this time.

I have noted them down, in the "if ever I am in the vicinity I'll look them up" category, they are nicely spread around the country and yes given a decent crop of joiners in it would be a good challenge. The Brown Jug in Broadstairs looks a decent place for a pie and a pint, for those who enjoy that type of thing anywhere in the Home Counties :-D

The AA box thread kicked off when I photographed one up in Scotland by chance. I think I will adopt the same approach. First one to spot, and snap one of the ones on the list starts the thread :-D

Well I'm up for it so I have printed the list to store in the glovebox and once the more active members read about it we'll see what happens!! :-D
