How to replace REAR LOWER DRIVE SHAFT ENGINE MOUNT 180928

Hi

I've discovered my 2004 407 v6 has a "missing" rear lower engine mount (well it looks like it was there once but now is a shadow of its former self)

I've read elsewhere on this forum (406) that if you need to take the mount off its a bugger of a job as the driveshaft goes thru it

Has anyone replaced these with the rubber bush itself (see pic) that does not seem to have a ring around it - is it just a push in job or more complicated ?

It's a totally different setup on your 407, but same part 180928 item (32), although it looks different in the 407 diagram below. Still available £40.60.

I'm hoping the answer is the old rubber "falls out", you slip this new one in and its held in place by the no. 4 fork (no messy having to remove the mount to press the ring one in)

It has to be better than what is there now :)

So a bit of tool time today

Seems either someone had replaced the engine mount before it or the screw at the bottom on the mount holder was an optional extra

After labouring for a while trying to pull it out to the driver side, I tried going the passenger side and it just slid out (seems there is a bit of a lip on the driver side to stop it moving that way but of course you can't see it).

Now i found out that there are 65mm and 70mm rubber mounting - of course mine was the 65mm one and the replacement rubber I bought was 70mm.

After labouring a while trying to pull it in, I ground off one of the plastic tabs get a bit more clearance and it slipped in (with a bolt set up as a press).

On the engine mount itself (#20) there are some groves top and bottom inside which the plastic tabs sit in and I guess hold it. It was pretty snug and tight and any way, the arms of the carrier mount #4) hold it it either side.

Another time waster was the nut that is retained at the top of the mount ( #12 in the pic) - it is impossible to get to and once you move the mount off the bolt hole, you are doomed as there is no way to push it back in between the mount - I ended up disguarding it and using the nut only.

All up took around 2 hours include a auto oil change (where the torx nut had stripped so I had to use a small metal chisel to spin it out, after all other efforts nut removal efforts failed)
