DS 7 Alloy wheel sizes

Post by adbg096 »

Hi,

Has anyone been able to fit any wheel larger than 8.5Jx20 on to a DS 7 Crossback? :-k

There are 21" rims in either 8.5 or 9 that are listed in aftermarket stores. What width of tyres were you thinking of? 235 45 21 seem to compare well with standard 235 45 20 when you run them through "will they fit". 245 and 255 widths are also available in 21" tyres but I suspect they might lead to fouling.
The 8.5 x et 43 21" rim gains about 12mm in ride height.
The 9 x et 38 21" rim gains about 12mm in ride height and 11mm in extra outer arch width while being still about the same inside. 235 tyres are probably too narrow for 9" rims.

Thanks for your reply Dormouse. I was thinking 8.5Jx21 or 9Jx21 as the max I'd go. Most online alloy wheel stores only give up to 20" when you input your vehicle details. I was wondering as I've seen online somewhere (cant remember where) that 21" can fit onto a DS 7 Crossback.

21's will fit. Only problem is tyre widths with 9j rims. That, and the limited choice of suitable 21" wheels.
Make sure you get the correct offsets. 8.5 rims need to be 43 ET and 9 rims need to be 38 ET. Problems that can ensue if you don't is rubbing on the inner or outer tyre edges especially when the suspension goes to the limits of movement.
8.5 rims will be easier to get right. Try to avoid using spacer plates to get the correct ET but if you must, match the bolt lengths to the hub / spacer combo and try to get hub centric spacers so the wheels don't go off centre. Fitting alloy wheels is fraught with pitfalls for the unwary.

I've been fiddling around with a Rim & Tyre size calculator online and it seems as though if I want little or no increase noise, fuel consumption, treadwear, whilst retaining the same ride comfort, 235 45 with an ET38 offset are the best tires for 9Jx21. Although, you did mention the 235 45s may be a little narrow though. That same website, however, does also say that space under the fender maybe quite tight but then again they have not got the make and model of vehicle.
Thanks for you responses Dormouse. You've actually taught me a lot today =D> =D> =D>

@ Dormouse

I see you own a Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4, which is built on the same platform as the DS 7 Crossback. Do you still have the OEM alloy wheels on that or have you changed them?

I have changed them and the tyre sizes. I have a standard 16" set for winter and an aftermarket set of 17" alloys with larger/wider tyres to gear it up. Needs thin spacers to clear the fuel downpipe but otherwise works well and side by side tests show I get a better ride than my wife's cousin's DS 5 on standard 17" wheels and tyres.
