Camshaft End Bearing Caps, BoL and concerns

Post by Rhothgar »

Afternoon guys,

What would you do here?

The BoL says you should apply compound to the end of the end bearing caps but doesn't say whether the grooves in them should be plugged with sealant or what.

Here is a link to a video I have taken on OneDrive. I'd be very grateful for comments from any Citroen brother that has cogitated about this and what to do in the past:-

Oil going through those grooves would only end up back in the engine, both ends are behind the oil seal, I have never used sealants on there, I only rarely used a new rocker cover gasket.
BXs since 1993 built 1.9 TZD turbo, got a S2 Xantia estate, brilliant car! 2013, Xantia HDI LX 110 2000 new car with 122,000, l C2 HDI Rusty rocket, C3 Picasso HDI new to me.

I blobbed some on as per the Haynes manual.

Should really have scraped off any excess on the machine surface of the head as the rocker cover gasket hits it. I've used Victor Reinz gaskets and the quality is very high with very good suppleness and detailing around the two end bearing caps.

Got engine started without auxiliary belt, as manual tensioner is shot, and it sounds as though something is amiss. Going to repin the injection pump, camshaft and flywheel and check belt tension again.
