MyWay Bluetooth audio options

Post by Mollers »

Hi all,

New here so please be kind!

My wife and I have just bought a 2012 C4 Grand Picasso at the weekend. We were assured that the car has Bluetooth (which it does) but it wasn't made clear that this can only handle calls rather than audio streaming (which is essentially the only thing my 8 month pregnant wife cares about!) - my fault for not checking properly I suppose.

The dealer has said there's not much he can do (and searches on the web suggests he's right) and my wife is all for selling the car immediately and replacing it with one that does have the BlueTooth audio feature (blame the hormones!).

I've come across this - https://www.vocomo.de/en/bluetooth-hand ... troen.html - which suggests it will work with the car and will integrate with the existing system, but the only post on this forum about this suggests it's a waste of money (although it's over a year old), and I can't find much information elsewhere about it. It's not an amount of money I want to throw away on the offchance it won't work.

I guess my question is - what are my options? I'm guessing the dealer is right and there isn't anything he can do. Is the Vocomo above a worthwhile purchase? Or is there another product which does the same job for a lower price? Or should we just start again with a new car?

Cheers!!

Hi

Yes unfortunately the MyWay system never had Bluetooth Audio Streaming - despite it mentioning this in several owner handbooks!

That advert incidentally does not mention the C4 Picasso explicitly by the way - only the C4 which is a completely different vehicle.

Thejre are other options similarly like a Yatour unit that are much cheaper than that offering. They all work the same way. They use the CD Changer input at the back of the Head Unit to mimic a 6 CD Changer. That's all it does. The box handles the bluetooth data and sends it to the Head Unit as a CD. So you can have 6 directories of Music which mimic one of the 6 CDs available with a changer.

The only issue you may have is that once the bluetooth is connected up to the device for music streaming, you may not be able to use the built in bluetooth for phone calls I suspect.

There are loads of these device on the market that all work the same way - using the AUX / CD Changer port and range from £10 up.

Hi, and :welc: to the Forum.

You might (at a time that is safe) point out to your wife that the C4GP is quite a decent FAMILY car, with plenty of space. The trick is judging when to tell her this. [-o<

Thanks both for the comments and for the welcome!

@GiveMeABreak - useful insights, thank you. Forgive me if this is a stupid question (or if you don't know) but surely there must be a reason for the Vocomo to be so much more expensive than other products? I did contact them and they said it is compatible with the Grand Picasso, not just the standard C4. It does also state that it doesn't impact the use of the CD changer. Could it be that it is different to competitor products, hence the price - or is it just creative wording on their part.

@Hell_Razor5543 - haha, i'll be sure to be stood at a distance when I have that conversation. It's a weird situation - the dealer actually specialises in C4 Grand Picassos and searches them out, so he had several for sale. He pushed us towards this model (it's a 1.6HDi Exclusive) as it has the tailgate, leather seats, 18 inch wheels, inbuilt sunshades etc that he thought would be an advantage for us with a growing family. My wife was very clear that her main priority was Bluetooth - she has a custom Pioneer media unit in her Yaris and she loves it. To be fair, the Picasso does have Bluetooth - just not how she wanted it!

I'd take that with a pinch of salt. The MyWay Head unit (original RNEG) does NOT support Bluetooth Audio Streaming regardless of what they may say. So there is only one other way to get audio to it - via the CD AUX port or via an FM transmitter - period.

They can fluster tech talk all they like but those are the facts. This is similar to other units in operation and if you read their description "Unrestricted parallel use of CD changer" - that just confirms what I've said - it uses the CD changer port! :-D

So you'll have to look and see if it offers anything else you want over a cheaper version.

This unit would seem to also take over the Bluetooth phone side of things too, so will need it's own microphone which is supplied. There is no integration with the Head unit - just by smartphone it seems.

One last thing - they show 5 star reviews - but try clicking on them - there are none - says it all for me.

Yatour worked just fine with MyWay. No problems using inbuilt bluetooth for phonecalls at the same time. And why would there be when MyWay thinks it´s playing CD. Your phone just have to support two bluetooth audio devices at the same time, but I think that won´t be problem today.

Hi there

Have you got a link to the Yatour kit you bought? I have the RNEG system but would like to continue to use spotify. I'm currently using the aux ports to usb-c but of course, it won't charge. I previously had a dension kit on a clio that used the CD changer port, so I could still keep stalk control bit can seem to find the correct kit for my current C5 X7 model.

I'm fairly new to this car but it seems there's limited options, which is strange considering my clio was a fair bit older and I can find kits out there for it.
