Particle filter additive....how to reset...

Post by tomaskriv »

Hello,

Had Particle aditive level low warning. Garage refilled the container, but after connecting few tools they were unable to reset the ECU and delete error messages. They said that this could be because previous owner did not completet reset procedure(?) if that is possible. But then why I did not received any errros for the last two years of ownership?
I have Lexia tool with DiagBox 7.57 on laptop. Are these are the right tools for this task?
Any information is helpful for me. Thank you all.

On these there are 2 operations:

1) Priming of the Fuel Additive Circuit and
2) Resetting of the additive counter.

There is no separate additive ECU - it is all done from the repair menu of the engine ECU (depending on your version of Diagbox the exact location may be different).

On this engine you should refill with a minimum of 1litre, but no more than 1.5 litres for topping up.

Try it on your current version first, but if you have issues, I would update to 7.62 as 7.57 was only released in October 2014 and your vehicle was built on 3rd November 2014. 7.62 corrects some issues form the 7.58 version.

You may not have had error messages as the amount remaining is only estimated and is not physically measured. It relies on the resetting when topped up as part of it's calculations.

Thanks for help Marc.
Are there any steps that I will need to enter amount of aditive used for top up?
I am probably asking too much but could you list the steps for this procedure? Googled for hours and all I was able to fing is diferent steps every time. Nothing from A to Z.
Thank you.

That's because there is no exact guide, as each engine ECU is different and some have additive ECUs, others don't, some need priming, others don't.

You don't enter the amount of additive you put in - it is always reset to zero and that is what must be entered. It is a specific option and it will guide you though what to do when you find the option in Diagbox.

Try the REPAIR menu first, and see if you can find it in there - if not, run a Global test, then select the Engine ECU from the list after it has finished the scan. Then select the engine ECU and confirm to enter the related menu section. From there you should see various options - so look for the one concerning topping up the additive.

I can't guide you specifically as the process can be slightly different on each vehicle / version of Diagbox.

The procedures are guided when you find the correct option.

If youa re not confident in doing this, then maybe leave it to the dealer to do for you - there may still issues with resetting it though with a clone.

Look for a menu that says ‘Pack Repair’ all the things you are looking for are in there. Once you are in there you have the option ‘filling of the additive reservoir’. May not be the exact wording as this is from memory. Click & follow the on screen instructions.

Intersesting thing. Tried this evening to use Lexia to reset that eolys counter.
Repair-pack repair- replacement parts-additive tank filling
It shows for my engine 1.39 liters(if my memory is correct). I leave that and press two cog icon. Lexia throws error about no connection with psa. If I ignore this it just says programming failed error 431(?)
I used Diagbox 7.57
Also there was engine ecu communication error.
Is this version too low for my car?
What do you think Mark? Will try with 8.01 tomorrow.

No, try with V7.62, don't go later for now.

Make sure you are not connected to the internet! Leave the WiFi card active (not disabled), but just make sure you disconnect from any home or free wifi networks so it cannot attempt a connection or it will likely deactivate your software. If this happens, then you need to copy the backup of the licence file you should of kept at installation and overwrite the existing one.

Well, I think it is time to admint that I must go to dealer.
Tried with DiagBox 8.01. It was already installing when you Marc told me to try older version. Basically same issue. When software tries to access/repair additive pump, I get message ''Access to the authentication server is not possible. Please try later.''
Also engine ECU is not recognised. To downgrade I must wipe DiagBox installation and start from square one...thats hours of time.... I just wonder should I book for service or repair? Never been at dealers garage.

Just tell them you've replaced the additive yourself and now just need the additive counter operation resetting. They shouldn't charge you more than half an hour of diagnostic time as the quoted labour time is 36 minutes for this operation.

Another case closed. 40 mins later all fixed at Citroën dealers garage. For free. Christmas came early this year!
