OK, those are classic symptoms of a sticking thermostat.
Shop around for a good quality one.

That is a top brand (original equipment in some cases), and should be good.
Could you check both of the Vernet ones out, by immersing in a pan of heated water, and seeing at what temperature they stert to open, and whether they open smoothly and progressively?

If good, is it possible that the 'stats are fouling on something, and unable to open easily?
One other cause of a 'stat not opening properly is a substantial air-lock, but I guess that's unlikely, given the amount of work you've been doing on the system. Might be worth checking, though.

Well the first one i checked in boiling water and it did open very close to a boiling point and it in fact did not open gradually, it opened almost instently

And i don't know what could cause thermostats to fail.. i was wondering the same thing

If there was an air lock, wouldnt that cause overheating? Since my car isnt overheating as long as the thermostat is opening, i would think is unlikely

So new special event just happened :-D after a night i came to my car and there is a big amount of coolant spilled under it. Opened the hood and the culprit is top radiator hose, the part where the top radiator hose connect to thermostat housing let go. after removing the metal clip and removing top radiator hose the metal "thing" around hose is completely rusted out and there is no where for clip to hang on to it... So the new hose is already on its way here...

But it got me thinking could this be the culprit to my problems in any way shape of form, maybe it was sucking air a little bit at a time, before completely letting go, and causing weird things to happen?

Agree, the hose needs fixing/replacing.

For the hot water test, thermostats should open smoothly, and not jump open suddenly.
If both your new ones are doing that, don't use them.

Good brands include Valeo, Febi Bilstein, Gates, Quinton Hazell, Mahle (Mahle-Behr), Meat & Doria.

i only tested the first one, but if the other is acting the same i would assume its the same thing.. cant really take it out and test easily, because i'm really limited on time due to university and i also have no space where to work on it, since i don't have personal driveway or garage and don't want spill antifreeze on public property..

so this whole processes will take time cuz i'll need to find space and time to do all those things.

i'll keep you updated after i manage to do something.

So I really don't want to jinx myself, but I promised an update.

After changing the top radiator hose and after driving for couple of weeks - the sticking thermostat seems to be fixed...
I have no clue how did the radiator hose had to do anything with that, but it is seems to be fixed. Maybe just a crazy coincidence, I dunno.

Maybe trapped air, or trapped crud, or maybe the stiffness just gave up the struggle, and decided to work.
Fingers crossed! :juggle:

I want to ask another question... is it okey to run G12 coolant in my 1.8 16v engine... since i filled it with it?

i have an app that gives suggestions on liquids for a specific car and engine.. when i look up citroen xanita it says i should use g11

but when i look up peugeot 406 1.8 16v it says to use g12 coolant even if its the same engine as mine...

and there is quite a lack of concrete information about this in the internet
