Peugeot 2008 blue hdi cambelt slip (16 plate)

Post by Redwood500 »

Hi,

Cambelt 'slipped' on this car. Long story short, garage agreed to fix, paying most of bill. Looked, on face of it, as though it would need new valves, at very least, and possibly pistons. However, car was returned with new camshaft, rockers, and water pump.

Engine feels like it has less pull than before cambelt failure. Car drives 'okay' but very slight judder at low speeds.

My fear is that the repair was less than complete. I'd have expected the repair report to mention replacement of valves.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Would appreciate any sage advice.

Was the cylinder head removed to check the valves or at least a cylinder leak check done?
Unlike the old 8v DW10 engines which i have yet to see bend a valve after a timing belt failure but on the 1.6 HDi i have seen them damage valves, but not every time. They also normally damage the camshaft(s) & the pulley too. The cam lobes twist on the shaft & it normally shears the woodruff keyways on the shaft & pulley.

Is that the case for both 8v and 16v 1.6 HDi engines?

On the 16v yes but couldn't say about the 8v engines, not really seen timing belt issues on them. And the 8v doesent seem to be as popular in the 1.6.

Thanks.

The 8v 1.6HDi came out in about 2013 and I think replaced the 16v. Now that has been replaced by the 1.5 HDi in turn but I think that the valve system is probably the same. So, the numbers will become greater as time goues on!
