While searching the area towards the front of the left hand side (passenger) wheel arch, I found this piece of hard plastic floating around on its lonesome. I will try to upload a photo of it in a moment. Is Marc able to upload a picture of that area (parts diagram) behind the front plastic "bumper" and the left wheel arch which may help to see wheel it should fit.
This search was being carried out to assist in finding a rumbling sound which only occurs on a rough road surface. Smooth surfaces do not give rise to the rumbling. I doubt if it is a bearing, especially give that the car has travelled 100k kilometres on paved roads, albeit too many with coarser aggregate tarred thereto.

Re: Orphan part from my C5
At a complete shot in the dark, I'm guessing it's going to be the plastic cover that protects the subframe to body bolt that sits within the front wheel arch. If I'm right I think that's worth at least 50 points
Sadly no longer a C5 owner

Re: Orphan part from my C5
Richard, Thanks for those diagrams. I am sure that there will be an occasion when I need to pull the front off the car, unfortunately. I find with these diagrams that they are especially useful in relation to the fixings. Just determining the location of certain undertray fixings constitute an intelligence test. That’s probably why they challenge me.
BTW, I found late last night that the delinquent object was the battery”wedge” which had fallen through. I am hoping that this was the cause of the vibration when driving on coarse bitumen.
