Engine wiring harness

Post by MarkyD1977 »

Hi All,

I have some electrical issues on my Diesel 5008 (2013) DV6 and and considering replacimg the complete engine wiring harness.

I have a used one in very good condition that I plan to try.

Obviously this will be easier with the wiper scuttle/tray removed... Is there anything I should be particularly aware or a procedure to follow to make this easier? Will I need access from underneath?

Any advice from you learned folk, much appreciated.

Mark.

Im not familiar with this model or its engine harness but generic advice would be if you have the new harness lay out out roughly in position it will sit, try to identify & label each connector before you start. That will give you a good idea what you need to access.
I would imagine some access will be required underneath for some things.

With the replacement harness spread out as guide work along the existing harness and track all of the locations. This will give you an idea of where access is going to be tight and what parts need to removed to lay the new harness in place. Spend a while working on this as "Prep Time" before you start for real. Remember that most harnesses are originally installed prior to the major mechanical parts so time spent planning is time well spent. Inspect all the plug end terminals on the replacement harness and make sure they are identical to the existing ones BEFORE you try to fit the harness because fitting the correct terminals is way easier off the car than in place. Replacing a wiring harness is no worse than any other job - if you have prepared for it. Modern harnesses have lots of wires so it takes longer to check and connect but the basic premise is the same. Make sure you are fitting like for like, work out what is in the way and do the job methodically.
