Removing old glue from fuel filter repair

Post by Jaf »

I just got Fred running again after months off the road, only for the leak off pipes to let go and an old repair to the filter housing to give out too. Was quite spectacular amount of smoke, I thought the engine was on fire!

Any ideas how I get the old glue off the filter housing? Just sort of scratch it off? Or try and find a second hand one?

Thanks.

If the black plastic fuel filter, sitting on top of the water outlet/thermostat, try petrol first, then some dissolvente.
If it's epoxy (two-pack) adhesive, then it might have to be filed/ground/sanded/scraped off, as solvent won't touch it.

Yeah it's the 2 pack stuff. Gone a bit yellow after a few years.

You'll need to drill it out, if doing a repair.
