3 from me bring down the curtain of 71 reg spotting month.

Number 1. A VW ID4 on the A1. The VW ID 3 merges into the background more particularly in the shades of grey. While not particularly being my cup of tea the VW ID 4 has a bit more presence. No photo.

Number 2 A Skoda

Number 3 A Tesla Model 3

Ok Neil, you can add three 71 plate cars to your statistics ( and 2 EVs to the spotted list ).
Car 1 - 71 plate T Roc on tuesday evening, 31st August, in our neighbour's drive. By next (wednesday) evening it was sporting the daughter's personal reg.
Car 2 - ID4 to replace a 3 year old Telsa 3 in a neighbouring street.
Car 3 - yesterday returning from a funeral in Kirkcaldy, a white Telsa 3.
And that is without going out looking for them.
There would have been a 71 plate lorry coming from Cameron Distillery but my wife spotted that not me.

None from me today, mostly due to the Gerald Ford syndrome.

The results are in. Looks like about one third of the UK new car buying population are plumping for electric in September 2021, and the remaining two thirds still enjoy filling up their tanks with petrol and diesel :-D
And the prize goes to Skoda! (5 spots from the FCF faithful)

Out of time I know but I spotted my first 71 today during a trip to Elstree. It was a black Hyundai mid size SUV, possibly an iX30, which went past me on the A1 when I was doing 70!! I felt that the chart had no representations from the SE so worth mentioning!! :-D

Another mini countryman for me today, difficult to switch off the pre-priming to notice, even after the FCF deadline has passed.

Late to the party as always, just had a walk up to the 'corner shop' and came back a different rout to avoid smokers. Passed the drug dealers house and there is now a '71' Tesla S there.
Usually BMWs.

I Spy a 71-reg-Open Today

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

The Random hand of the FCF Archives February Ferret 2023 has honoured this thread with selection today 24th February 2023.

To mark the occasion the thread is today open for new contributions of 71-reg spottings in any category of vehicle, hopefully with a decent crop of original images taken today.

There will be plenty about, and plenty opportunity for original photos, the more interesting the vehicle, bike, car, tractor, excavator, bus, HGV, Van etc etc the better. Loads of opportunities....I will set the ball rolling shortly, but do pick it up and join in...its just a bit of fun (hopefully!). :-D

OK. This is going to be more challenging than I thought. I had forgotten that cars bearing a 71 plate (Sept 2021-February 2022 registrations) swim about mostly in a sea of uninterestingness, and in reality are hardly worth a shutter click. That's the conclusion I reached on my first brief foray with the camera, which remained firmly in the holster.

I had 2 options a VW Tiguan, or a Volvo X something or other Box, both of which I rejected.

Additional participation opportunity needed

...let us also, for this special day for the thread, look back to cars registered in the year 1971. Now that will be a J or a K suffix.

J 1st August 1970 to 31st July 1971
K 1st August 1971 to 31st July 1972

I will not be pedantically checking DVLA records for the reg number and actual registration dates, any J's or K's will do.
The Glenmarch.com search is a good place to start. Bucketloads of '71 cars here, refine your search and post up something you like.
The 1971 bit of the search is done for you

It is all too complex. They should drop the whole scheme.

I have referred to this one before, coming up at WB and Sons Sale on March 11th 2023, very inappropriately in the Open-Top Cars section, where I selected on-topic a Triumph TR6 from the sale, but let slip that of everything in the sale this was undoubtedly in my eyes the star. Guess what its a 1971 incarnation so spot on for my special extension of the scope of the I-Spy a 71 reg thread today to 1971 cars.

Image

There is a detailed walkround video as ever on the WB and Sons website, https://wbandsons.com/listing/lancia-fulvia-s2-1300s/

The Fulvia is a fascinating car, "more expensive than an e-type" when new and reading round, I discovered some Car SOS "Workshop Uncut" videos about it. The V4 engine is a little marvel and produces one of the finest exhaust notes at the tail pipe. There are three vids so far in the series from Car SOS "Workshop Uncut", but this one about fabrication of the inner sill from a flat piece of steel by a skilled craftsman who loves his Lancia's in Wrexham is more than worth a watch. The more annoying one of Tim and Fuzz does the visit but don't let that distract you from a process I found fascinating.

Once you've done that you can put the whole thing into this:

And if all goes to plan you will end up with this which fits the thread expansion nicely!! :-D
