Hi ive just connected equipment to laptop and all it says when i click on car model is THE VCI IS NOT CONNECTED please connect a vci, i followed the video and upgraded to v7.57 when i connect the odb reader it lights up green then the light goes off, i see it says installing driver and it appears to install, under device manager it says actia usb device - usb com board evolution driver (UDMF) even if i put it all 3 usb ports it does this.

Ive ran interface checker but it doesn't see it so i cant even see what version its is or suppsoed to be.

Any ideas

Cheers Scott

It is good that you plugged and unplugged the USB into all your USB ports on the laptop - as this ensures the drivers are installed for each.
I would try ensuring the car is running in case you have economy mode kicking in.
Make sure there are no windows update services running and disable any antivirus for the purposes of trying to get it to connect.

This issue is usually a driver issue, a connectivity issue or a faulty interface (or an older revision B unit). Where did you get the interface from?

Very stupid question do i need to have it connected to the car in order for the VCI message to go? i mean if i just have it connected to laptop would i always get the please connect the VCI or should it remove the message if its working? im confused that the green light comes on for about 3 seconds then goes off and it finds hte drivers and installs them? at that point should i connect to the cars ODB, have i been doing this wrong from the start?

Start the laptop, plug in the USB, launch Diagbox, select vehicle and connect VCI and it should retrieve and confirm the VIN.

But to be honest, I’ve connected it up in different orders and it always works, but mine was bought from a UK supplier and is a proper full chip kit.

For the price I doubt this one of yours is a full chip kit, despite the claims, or may be a very inferior clone.

I do advise getting one from a reputable UK supplier that has backup support to be honest. We could be wrecking our brains over this and that when the interface could simply be duff.

You'll have to forgive me if you answered all this elsewhere - but I can't recall or remember now what the original problem was as this has got scattered all over the forum :-D - but if you have topped up the adblue tank and are still getting this warning, then I would use those 200 miles to get it to your nearest Citroen dealer and let them deal with it at this stage - otherwise you are going to have to fork out for towing on top of anything else if it gets to that stage.

There is no guarantee you are going to be able to do anything with Diagbox in this state and it was always a possibility that you may need a later software version. But the interface issues on top of everything else are just compounding the issue. I would cut your losses, get the car to the dealer, let them diagnose and sort out the De NOx issue / or worse the adblue tank. I'd then start a return for the VCI kit you bought and send it off on a slow boat to China and tell them it's faulty.

Things are going nowhere fast at this juncture and time (or miles in this case) are running out. I don't want to sound negative, but there are so many factors at play here, it's becoming difficult to focus - and I'm sure you're going crazy.

Hi guys ive reintalled win 7 32 bit and im going to start from scratch, iis it possible the the vci has the wrong firmware? and if so is it worth trying to connect it at every version from 7.01 onwards to see if it does communicate then uprade or 'flash' it (is this easy using the PSA Interface Checker? thats im asuming if it actually does connect, if not after this trial its going back.

Not really - the VCI firmware is updated automatically in line with the software version when you apply each update:
firmware.PNG
If you have already upgraded to a version as shown in the table, then the VCI will already have the corresponding version of firmware applied. The correct version is needed to work with the software version used. To downgrade, you would need to manually reflash the firmware, but there is no point really - not for a 2015 vehicle.

Thanks Marc for all your help, ive got a mechanic coming over who deals with all the emergency service vehicles and hes going to live test /read the codes and then see what is required, hes reputable and legal, if it turns out to be the tank AGAIN then citroen will nto get another penny as i have a case open since covid and the closure of our local dealership, i got in touch with them before the end of the 1 year warranty on the replacmenet tank and pump last time so if thtas the fault then they are bound by law and an email from citroen UK to relpace it.

One thing how can i check the version number if its not detecting the VCI ?
