Well done. Make sure she sticks to the Physio regime. Not too little and not too much, too soon. Hip surgery can be very successful. By the time I get my knee done I will be well past it.

Thanks Dormouse, indeed she will. This is her second replacement having had the other hip done 4 years ago so she is practiced in the recovery phase. The first one was a total success so we are expecting the same this time round and I will sign her up for the Three Peaks as a Christmas present :-D

I hope you aren't going to charge her the full £1200/week. She must be entitled to around 10% discount.

Oh, dear! She has been investigating what you have been doing while she has been 'medically confined'. I hope there is nothing incriminating lying around?

I had one of those horrible "oh my God" thoughts last night realising the MOT on the MX3 was due this month. I have always been used to having it in May but last year's COVID extension has upset my routine somewhat! So I ran up to the study and checked the paperwork to discover it runs out today!! No time to book it in at my usual place down the road, so I arose early, 6.45, and took it straight over to our newish MOT centre in Redbourn where there is just a first come first served drive through system in place. Very well organised, clean and friendly. Here she is going through the motions:
MOT 1
MOT 1
MOT 2
MOT 2
MOT 3
MOT 3
Sadly the outcome was not quite as I had hoped. After telling me that "the car is a really lovely example in great condition" he followed up with "I'm afraid it has a sheared front coil spring so fails!!"

Having recovered from that depressing news we discussed the general condition of the car and all is good so now I have to sort the spring and get it back for the retest within 10 working days!! Watch this space!!

Springs are a common issue in today's maintainence/MOT findings and, unless it breaks in the middle, virtually undetectable from the driver's seat. Oh well, at least you checked your expiry date. One more job to add to the list of daily chores.

Well initial research for the spring has not gone that well!! My local man was unable to source one and neither could my nearest dealer. Fortunately I have found one online and it is on its way, although not expected until next Mon-Wed. However I did discover that there is an outstanding recall on the car for a new ignition switch so after much discussion I have decided to take the car to the dealer with my new spring and pay them to risk their fingers instead of me mine!! :-D Unfortunately this will mean over running the free retest period so I will have to pay for another MOT at the dealership which is £1 cheaper than the test centre Hoorah!! :-D :-D

Excellent news on the spring story, I managed to find a spring in Yorkshire which is now sitting on the MX3's passenger seat and the dealer is going to fit it on Tuesday morning allowing me to get the car up for its free retest in the afternoon!! Result!!
On another note my Elstree friend had a misdemeanour in the Venga resulting in my needing to do a little repair and touch up. Before researching where to find the paint code on a Venga I had a quick look at the door pillar label and was delighted to find how easy it is to find the code!! Why can't all manufacturers make it as clear as Kia do?: :)
