This thread has been modified and some factually incorrect information removed.
As far as BSM is concerned (also referred to as the Engine Fusebox), it is essential to get the correct matching one for your vehicle. These do not have to be programmed (bearing in mind this thread concerns a 2006 C5) - they are plug and play - however they must be correctly matched for each vehicle. They may look identical, but have completely different internal components and the electronics are specific to the vehicle architecture for which they are intended.
Always ask here which one you need as it can save a lot of grief.
Some specific models like the Peugeot 508 and Citroen C4 may require the fusebox to be programmed for the vehicle's systems.

Re: Replace BSM, C5 2.0 -06
Hi, I need to replace the BSM too. The Siemens part number is 9656593780, the BSM is L04-00.
I can ether find the correct part number with a different BSM (L01-00), or the correct BSM number with a different part number.
Anyone can tell me if one of these options would fit? Thanks a lot!

You need to stick to the correct part number of the original using the 96******** number.

Re: Replace BSM, C5 2.0 -06
Hello,
Following up on this one...I need to replace my BSM - Peugeot 508, 1.6 petrol, THP, 156BHP - and I was wondering whether it needs to be programmed. I read here that it is basically a "plug and play" device but, on the other hand, I was told that on the 508 and some model of C4 it should be PROGRAMMED. and ...there was a question about Israel (from someone here) - I am from IL (Not sure why it should make a difference).
If INDEED NEEDED - HOW...?
thank you in advance.

Yes, the 508 engine fusebox needs configuring. It would normally be done by the dealer on replacement. If you are sourcing one yourself on the second hand market, you would need to check the configuration even if it has come from the same make and model.
Example options include the air pump, diesel fuel filter, valve lift motor or not, Headlamp wash etc.
The dealer would use their connected diagnostic interface to do it (Diagbox).

Assuming i get the package from the UK guys (they can ship, i checked), would the configuration be easy? Guided by the software?GiveMeABreak wrote: 05 Sep 2021, 15:59 Yes, the 508 engine fusebox needs configuring. It would normally be done by the dealer on replacement. Re: Replace BSM, C5 2.0 -06
Make sure you Use Diagbox Version 7 and upgrade it to V7.58, no further, to start with. I can't help you with V9.** as that has little to no manual telecoding without PSA server access.
Before you start, I strongly suggest that if you have access to the current BSM at present with Diagbox, that BEFORE swap them over, you take screenshots of all of the screens in the following sections:
To get here, connect up the VCI and launch Diagbox and confirm vehicle which it should do from your VIN.
Then run a Global Test and allow it to go through and complete the scan of the ECUs
When it is complete, look for the BSM ECU from the list and select it then confirm to gain access to the configuration menu. Make sure you select MANUAL configuration - not Internet Configuration!
Once you have accessed the Manual configuration section, you should find the following menus / options:
You will need these values to configure the same parameters in the menus when you have fitted the replacement BSM module.
Please also read this guidance before using the Diagnostic equipment - there is no 'undo' option, so you must be absolutely sure of what you are doing.
Lexia / PP2000 / Diagbox Warning
If you cannot read the values or parameters from your existing BSI at the time I may be able to assist you with the available values, but configuring these depends on the equipment installed on the vehicle.

WOW...kudos... thanks for this. The UK product you indicated on the lexia discussion has
Diagbox 8.17, so it won't fit according to what u wrote ? Sounds like an upcoming headache

The hardware is important, but as for the software, just ask Jim for Diagbox V7 and updates to 7.58 - he should be able to provide those for you.

Re: Replace BSM, C5 2.0 -06
Hi, opening up an old post here but it relates exactly to my query.
I have a 2005 Citroen C8 2.0 hdi 16v manual
I need another BSM. The part number of mine (9657608580) BSM B5, is exactly the same as one on ebay I want to buy, however, the one on ebay says it is off a 2005 Peugeot 206 1.4 petrol automatic!? But it's the identical look and part number as above 9657608580 even the year (2005).
Will this be ok to use?
Please if anyone can let me know asap as im waiting to go ahead and buy it.
Thanks!
