C5 X7 Door mirror not folding - the Answer (now)

Post by Sloppysod »

This may help someone in the future.
I had a small problem yesterday, I locked my car and I noticed the drivers door mirror did not fold.
I was expectating to remove the door mirror and look whats gone wrong and, probably have to get another one, ££££'s 8-[
Anyway, before taking the mirror off I thought I would try a little fine spray oil, from the outside of the car, I have an aerosol can of maintenance oil that has a small plastic tube. I sprayed oil to where I believe the mechanisim was, on the part attatched to the door from where the mirror body swivels, now the mirror moves as it should, so I went and done the same to the other side. Only time will tell if this has permently fixed the problem - fingers crossed. =D>

I used some silicone spray on the C3 mirrors as one in particular was sticking and sometimes closing sometimes not opening - did the same and it cures it for a while.

Marc was correct " cures it for a while." :?

Aanyway, it stopped working again so I decided to get inside and see what can be done as a permanant repair.
It is quite easy to strip down the mirror assembly down without removing the inner door panel.
Remove the mirror glass, remove the tilting motors (3 Screws), remove the front upper cowling (4 clips), remove the lower cowling (3 clips) then unscrew(2) whats left of the assembly from the door. This took about 20 minets to do and about 15 to put back.
Once it was off I could spray grease into the motor/gearbox assembly, only time will tell if the repair lasts. Fingers crossed. [-o<

Note:- Spraying with oil probably did not have that much effect as the motor/gearbox is well hidden from where I was spaying.

before using lubricant, first wash off all old lubricant and the parts that moves and rotates with.
petrol is excellent for cleaning.
i recommend to disassemble mirror and rebuild it from 0 to 100. this is a permanent fix
