Help! C15 D fallen foul of LEZ. Technical info needed

Post by Bilkob »

As per title. My dear little C15-51 plate so 2001 - has been (wrongly I suspect) identified by dear old Transport for London as failing the Low Emissions Zone.
EVERY other C15 I check on their website passes, older and younger ones. My van has the DW8 engine which as far as I can ascertain is Euro 3 compliant and therefore LEZ legal. We are NOT talking about ULEZ here, that’s a completely different subject.
I have spoken to Citroen UK who were surprisingly very helpful and hopefully I have an official letter on the way stating what the original engine specs were. All this info is blank on my V5 registration document which I think is where this problem has occurred. I’ve been fined twice so far, £500
I’m after any official documentation that o can send to TfL proving that my DW8 engine is Euro 3 compliant
HELP!!!!!!

We'll need your VIN for a start, but I suspect there will be little info contained given the model and age. I have looked up another 2005 DW8B and there is hardly any detail, so your best bet is relying on Citroen directly to provide you with this. There are no Euro standards listed against the C15s I have looked at, so this is not going to help.

What is the reg number or VIN?
I dont really know much about LEZ/ULEZ or how it works as i don't live anywhere near London but i can try having a look at some spect to see if that can help you.
I know there are 2 versions of this engine, the DW8 & the DW8B so maybe this is the difference?

Wikipedia lists all the PSA engines, and states that DW8 is Euro3 compliant, but didn't meet Euro4 requirements:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PSA_EW/DW_engine#DW8

The Citroen letter should help. They can be good with this sort of thing.
This is an issue lots of us will face in coming years...

Thanks for all the replies. The Reg no is LV51XDP. What makes me suspicious is I’ve been using this van for nearly 5 years and this is the only time(well , twice recently) that I’ve been ‘pinged’. Has it suddenly become un-compliant ??

OK so this is a DW8B engine so i dont know if this makes a difference to your findings? The B variation is the newer one so i dont imagine would be a lower emission standard but may not be better. I'll have a look & see what i can find.

Your VIN will allow a check on PSA Servicebox, where engine etc characteristics are usually listed.
For older vehicles, some of these details can be a bit brief, but engine type is usually there.
Pop up your VIN (it'll appear masked) and we can check.

DW8B engine confirmed for the car.
Kerb weight looks to be 945kg.

Ok, thanks for this, and is the consensus that a DW8B engine is Euro 3 compliant?

I had a look at some documents the other day & couldnt find anything to say it was any better than euro 3.
Which weight is it you need? The gross weight or kerb weight?

I’d like both weights if possible. The more info I have the better

The gross weight is on your VIN plate. There are 4 weights listed on it, the gross weight is the first one.
