UREA warning / not clearing
Hi all 1st post be nice. This has probably been asked numerous times before but:
I had my adblue tank / pump replaced in dec 2019 at a cost of £1300 from a citroen dealership, during hte summer of 2020 the warning came back / engine fault etc i bought a cheap ODB2 scanner and i could erase the codes to keep the car running.
Now even though the UREA tank is full im on countdown to engine stop in 550miles. My above ODB2 wont clear the code/errors whcich mention reducant and nox sensor.
Ive being reading about diagbox and im thinking about getting it from somewhere (hint) but not sure what leads i need from laptop to the ODB2 connector, is it just a usb to obd2 cable? or does it need sensor software on it?
Also ive been in touch with citroen uk ref the faults prior to the 1 year warranty running out but they said if its a different code to last time then i would have to pay for everything, i did reply to them saying 'how many UREA systems are on the car, as far as i can tell their is only one.
Any advice / pointers would be much appreciated.

Re: UREA warning / not clearing
Hi, and to the Forum. The system that I use is one from Easy Diagnostics (mine is an older version than current). It is not cheap, but it has a complete component set (some of the cheaper units available from elsewhere have a reduced component set, which means they don't work with certain vehicles). They are out of stock at the moment, but it could be worth asking them anyway;

Re: UREA warning / not clearing
Unfortunately resetting / clearing codes won't do anything. If the fault is there is will still flag it up, so Diagbox is not going to help you particularly apart from hopefully which fault it is. Did you OBD II scanner give your fault code number itself?
All I can say is that it will be highly unlikely that the Adblue Pump has failed again - so I suspect it may be the NOx sensor or possibly the UREA injector, but can't be certain of course. Citroen are correct in that if it is something else, then that will be a separate issue to resolve unfortunately. If it does need a new NOx sensor / assembly and it is the type with an ECU on, these will need initialising when replaced, which is generally a dealer job for these systems.

Re: UREA warning / not clearing
U029D & U029E codes together generally require a software update. P20E8 is the DeNOx system - and the dealer will normally follow a set procedure with their diagnostic tool to decide if a warranty replacement is necessary.
So overall I think you need to bite the bullet and get it to the dealer in either case as you probably need the software updated as it is. Whether this will also sort out the other faults I can't say.

Re: UREA warning / not clearing
Thanks surely this software update would have/should have been done when they replaced the tank and pump in dec 2019? can other garages update software or mobile mechanics? my nearest dealer is now a 50 mile round trip.
Re: UREA warning / not clearing
The software would generally only be updated if there is either a quality update for your car (this would have been checked when it was in the dealer) or if there is a tech service bulletin for any specific fault codes or symptoms the car had at the time.
Yes anyone or any garage can update the software if they have a diagbox subscription & a compatible interface. The subscriptions can be purchased daily, yearly or even per session if I remember right.
I would imagine however that many garages would rather avoid getting involved.

Re: UREA warning / not clearing
If the tank was the new specification type then that would need a software update just so that it could work properly.

Re: UREA warning / not clearing
Question, ive checked the urea tank and its still full and not gone down since the errors occured? should that happen? could the nox sensor or the urea injector stop the urea getting into the system thus not using it?
Re: UREA warning / not clearing
It could potentially yes but in that period of time i cant imagine the amount it would have used would even be noticeable in a tank that size? It should last several thousand miles.

Re: UREA warning / not clearing
** UPDATE **
Went to a local lad today who ran a diagnostics, about 18 faults reported went through it very maticuoisaly and tested every fuse for current etc. URES pump started ticking again and then he found a fuse which had blown, replaced tested, cleared all warning lights, went for a drive came back no lights/warnings, took it hom e(13 mile trip) no warning lights. So far so good, but il lkeep an eye on it. Stil lcant believe a blown fuse cold cause such havoc.
