308 light settings, sidelights on with ign?

Unread post by nikeastwood »

a few years ago we had a citroen B9 berlingo, it had the standard light stalk as found in all cit/pug cars, it didnt have auto lightiing.

now, it was possible to turn the sidelights on, and when the ignition was switched off the sidelights would go off with it, and of course back on with ignition on.

our 308 has same standard lights, no auto. is there a way to make that same thing happen with it? any setting in diagbox or pp?

I think you are referring to what were the 'Daytime Running Lights' function using existing standard lighting units without the actual dedicated DRLs found on today's vehicles.

This was an option mostly for the colder Scandinavian countries where it is a requirement to have the headlamps on during the daytime. So back to your question, it may be a matter of looking at the BSI configuration - under some of the lighting options - as this is where any settings will be.

As always, please have a read of this guidance first - as we have had cases where members have changed settings and have caused malfunctions to the vehicle, through changing options not designed for that specific vehicle:

the berlingo had DRL's [as does the 308] on the menu setting in car, the sidelights worked independent of that function.

I am currently driving a fiat grande punto, the sidelights do the same thing, can have them on with ignition, if I decided with ignition off to have sidelights on while parked, you turn off the sidelights, then back on for them to come on without engine, and the berlingo did same thing.

will have a look in bsi

Try also the owner's handbook, which tend to cover that sort of thing.

🤔 Hmmm… I know on my previous C5s I just turned the side lights on after I switched off the engine if I was parked at night for a short while and then just put them back on Auto later.

My new Aircross has parking lights thankfully - a function I long missed from years ago. I just switch off the ignition and within 30 seconds activate the appropriate indicator to turn on the traffic side DRL LED and the rear traffic side sidelight. That is a function I’ve not had for donkeys on PSA cars. I think my old Vauxhall company car had it back in the late 80s though.

I think I understand what the OP is asking. In the past, vehicles did not have items such as the lights controlled via ECUs but directly from the relevant switch gear. This meant that, if you left the light switch in the 'sidelights' position (and assuming that, when the key was removed from the ignition, power was no longer suppled to the light switch), next time you turned the ignition back on the sidelights would also come on (as power was now restored to the light switch). However, modern cars have the lights controlled via an ECU, so when the ignition is switched on the lights are defaulted to 'Off', regardless of the actual position of the light switch.

I don't think that has anything to do with this case as the Berlingo he referred to was multiplexed so would not be relevant.

I know exactly what you mean, my X7 (with auto lights & DRLs ) does this. If you leave the stalk in the sidelights position they just come on & off with the ignition, it does the same on dipped beam too. If you turn the ignition off & want the sidelights (or dipped beam) back on with the key out you just switch the lights off then back on?
My mums corsa does this too.
I have never noticed any settings for this & think it is just vehicle dependent.

Check the settings menu from the radio. There may be an option there (depending on market). If not, I am fairly sure that the option can be enabled in the BSI using diagbox.
