207 cc Noisy Window

Unread post by Colin2206 »

My wife's 207cc has a noisy window in both up & down direction. She is now making more noise than the window, so something has to be done. Silicone spray makes no difference and I can't tell just where the noise comes from. I have taken the door card off with the idea of removing the regulator and guides and re-greasing everything. Then I checked Youtube and it seems every 207cc has this noise, so maybe it is a design feature?
Has anyone managed to resolve this?

Any help appreciated.

Colin.

I got this fixed and I bit easier than I feared.
The door card comes off quite easily, there are youtube videos for this. As always the plastic clips are liable to breakage but most came free. The light foam sheet comes off ok if you are careful. As it is a cc model, the Haynes manual doesn't get the description quite right but pretty close.
With all the covers off, I ran the window up and down to try to identify the source of the squealing noise, but it still wasn't obvious. I sprayed every thing, into the guides the carrier shoes but it made very little difference. I started to identify the anchoring bolts and cracked them off. By this time I realized the noise could only have two sources, the small motor or the wire stand/ fixed cover. It was the wrong sort of noise for the motor and as it seemed to come from several areas, the wire strands seemed a good bet.

For the next step, I strongly recommend disconnecting the battery: no battery, no sudden movement of the window regulator mechanism and no fingers lying on the kerb.

If you look carefully inside the door, you will see a small drum with the stand wire wrapped around it. From there follow the wire strand covers to the window guides. On each guide there is pulley and the bare strand wire running up the guide. It may be at the back of the guide and the rear one is much easier to find. You will need to do this by touch (after you disconnect the battery.)
Get some grease (I used a general purpose grease a bit heavier than vaseline) and force if onto the strand wires on the drum. No point putting it on the plastic, on the wires and massage it in as best you can; then rub some on the exposed strand wires on the guides, along the full length if you can.
Clean your hands, clear the immediate area, reconnect the battery, run the window up and down a few times and the noise should greatly reduce. Put the window to the opposite end you started at. Disconnect the battery and repeat. Hopefully the noise will all but disappear.
I think the noise is from the strand wire rubbing inside the fixed covers. Any grease originally applied is dried up and long gone. By putting plenty on the drum and the guide wires, enough should get pulled into the fixed cover to let it run smoothly.
