How to activate C5 X7 Automatic parking brake menu with Diagbox

Post by atanasoff »

Hi guys,

I have one problem with my C5 X7 Cross Tourer. In the menu, Automatic parking brake option does not present, and I know that there is a way to activate it using Diagbox.
I can't find it in the BSI - Driving Comfort section. Also, I can't find this option anywhere.
Read a lot for this topic, but I can't find the information from where to show it, so I can choose manual/automatic mode via the car menu.

Didn't find a solution for my problem in this forum. Please help me to get this fixed.

Appreciate it and thanks in advance!

If I recall it was removed as an option from the BSI. It will probably be in automatic mode by default now.

But this is ridiculous… The winter is coming after few months and I want to have the manual choice of activation…

I know that I can disable it, but this is not an option, because it is good to activate it from time to time.

So you are saying that there is no way to put it into manual mode somehow?

If I remember correctly, on my 2009 Exclusive, the option disappeared from the menu in the instrument panel menu (where you configure the lighting and comfort features as you probably know) after the dealers applied a BSI software update.

It also removed the option for indexing mirrors in reverse gear (we have the EU to thank for that one). I managed to get that option back myself with Diagbox, but it was hit and miss with the handbrake. So I just used it manually for driving and left it in automatic mode so it comes on after the engine is switched off.

If you want to manually release it, when you have the car parked safely, just stop the engine, put your foot on the brake pedal and keep it there, then turn the ignition on and press down on the parking brake release switch and keep it pressed until it goes off. The light / message should confirm it is released.

Thanks for your clarification! Obviously, I have to learn to live with that.

You mentioned the indexing mirrors in reverse gear - how can I get them working? I also activate them with Diagbox, but nothing happened. Is there anything else I need to do?

Sometime after 2009 they removed the function from the mirrors, so without the correct mirrors and control pad they won’t work. Nothing you can do about that now I’m afraid as the kit won’t be there for later models.

Lovely EU regulations…

Brought a lot of clarity on the topic.

Thank you very much.

Yes, I can't remember the exact regulation, but it had something to do with the mirrors no longer meeting the correct class when they were indexing in reverse - as they no longer allowed the driver to see behind at the rear side of the car when indexed - and this could cause the driver not to see a small person (child for example).

So they stopped producing this version of mirror and from BSI update 8.20 and build date 02/11/09 it was not available.

They may be right. I will get used to it.

The good thing is that now I know why I can't see the automatic EPB in the menu and also can't settle the indexing mirrors work.

Thank you again!
