Citroen C5 X7 weird ac problem

Post by alphaBeta »

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum and have a Citroen C5 X7 09 plate, that I've bought last year without the ac working. I got it re-gassed and it worked fine, for about 3 weeks. Pressure test did not indicate any leak.

Two days ago it somewhat broke,
I've been reading ac related threads but can't seem to find one with the same issue has mine, which is that the ac only works on the passenger side and there is a hissing sound coming from the center console everytime I turn on the AC, which suggest a leak and a flap issue.

And this is what I find weird, it got a leak and a flap issue at the same time? I think is a leak due to the hissing and a flap issue due to it only working on the passenger side.

Also, only the cool setting are affected by this, if I set the temp to high, both give out heat.

Does anyone know what might possibly be wrong here? Also, can the flaps on this car be reached by hand?

If it was the air mixing flaps - you wouldn't be getting hot or cool changes - the fact you've said you get hot air fine on both but only cold from one side with the temperature lowered and A/C would suggest the possibility of a blockage in the heater matrix / circuit.

When was the last time the coolant system was properly drained, flushed and refilled?

The coolant was drained and refiled 40k km ago when the water pump and timing belt were replaced. This was done by the previous owner in a Citroen dealer, which I've checked with Citroen before buying it, and it was indeed done there.

But I'm not sure if they flushed it or not.
I don't mind doing something like that myself, since the radiator fluid is pretty inexpensive and if doesn't work I don't lose much.
But I'm not sure how to flush the system, any guide on how to do this?

I had leak on mine, and when it was nearly empty, there was cold air coming only from one side. There was also hissing sound.

SO best recheck the A/C system first to make sure you actually don't have a leak - as some leaks can be hidden and slow.
