C5 X7 handbrake cables

Post by MGmike »

I'm after a bit of info from those in the UK with more experience on the X7.

Are handbrake cables expensive and hard to come by (other than from the main stealer)?

Reason for asking is that I'm working with a manufacturer of said cables on the supply of C6 units and wouldn't be adverse to expanding the range if the demand was there.

Thanks in advance

As all C6s have electronic parking brakes and most C5 X7s , I'm assuming these are what you are referring to?

For any fault with the EPB, the complete units are officially replaced entirely as Citroen do not sell the EPB handbrake cables separately. I've not known any cables to go on the X7 at all - just a few issues with the EPB, but these were mostly as a result of individuals being unaware of, or just not following the proper procedures to deactivate and decouple the cables before replacing rear discs / callipers. Other than that no issues, so I would not think there is a great demand for them Mike.

Thanks for the info Marc,
Yes EPB cables on both the C6 and X7.

I've never checked myself but have been told Citroen do the cables for the C6 at £300 for the pair. If the whole unit is replaced that would explain how one of the owners paid out £3k to have it replaced and why used units on the bay are so expensive!

As C6's are now between 10-15 years old there are a few failures due to ageing (rust and little use) and I've got enough interest in the community to have a few made. The manufacturer is suggesting his X7 unit as another possible line to stock/market (as he would!) and I might try a couple on the bay to see how It goes.

cheers

Good luck with the venture and I'm sure if your manufacturer can supply the cables that we would be happy to put an entry in the recommended Garages / Services section for them.

There have been some who have taken the units apart and replaced 'bits' from various sources, so it can be done.
