ZX Heater Control Illumination

Unread post by jeremy »

For some time now I've had to grope in the dark for the heater controls on our 94 ZX 1.9D. Having some time today I thought i'd replace the bulbs as it looked from Haynes as though they were the same as the clock and main instruements - ie the twist type blacl plugs holding capless bulbs.
Of course they aren't quite that.

I hope you can see that the bulb is in a black softish plactic holder but it isn't the plug thing I have described above and I can't get them out.
It seems as though the knobs are glued on and I can't see how to get the controls apart so as to attack the bulbs from the front!
Now I don't believe all you ZX owners are driving around with blacked out heater controls - so whats the secret before I start sawing it up?
Interesting way it deals with photos! Perhaps I'll try again later!

Jeremy when I did the ones on my 95ZX, there were two clips top and bottom of the front panel, lifting these slightly allowed the entire front to slide off, complete with the knobs. Bulbs were easy to replace from the front, just pulled out the holders like normal. Can't make out if yours is like this or not though. Got to do the ones on my 'new' 94 ZX soon, so let us know how you get on!

Thanks Richard - I'll have another go and if I don't contribute for a while you will know I've stabbed myself with a screwdriver.

Got it! Didn't realise that the clips on the front lifted a claw behind which released the front! - Could have finished the job about 4 hours ago!
We learn something every day!
