Engine jerked a few times then cut out

Unread post by moizeau »

This morning, just set off and the car started jerking. I thought it may be the gearbox missing a shift. It can sometimes be a little harsh between 2nd and 3rd but only when the engine is warmed up. Another 1/2 mile and it cut out. Restarted straight away then cut out again. Wouldn't restart. 3 minutes later, restarted and drove normally. Got it home and plugged it in and got some codes.
P1351 (ignored)
P0337 Engine speed signal - Permanent, open or short circuit

Then the Underflation ECU
2 transmitters not working (no surprise there, they're in bits in the glove box)
U1208 Engine speed info - Intermittent, incorrect value received
U2006 RCD fault - Engine speed absent or invalid
U2005 Vehicle speed absent or invalid.

I've also got a 'no communication error' with the ABS / Traction and with the Power Steering

Cleared the faults, went for a drive, everything is fine.
Rechecked for faults, the 4 problem one's haven't come back.
It did cut out on my wife a couple of years ago for no reason, wouldn't restart, then when I got there it started fine, never done it since....until today

Any ideas, I've checked live data regarding engine speed etc, all OK?
Cheers
Pete

Is this the 407?
Either way sounds like the start of a failing crank sensor/engine speed sensor or a bad connection to it.
This engine is know for the contacts on the engine speed sensor to oxidise & cause a bad connection, if its a connection issue rather than a failed sensor you can normally replicate the fault by wiggling the connector on the plug with the engine running (being mindful of of the moving belt & pulleys).

Sounds a bit like this one > viewtopic.php?t=69129

Cheers Wheeler, yep it's the 407. Just done some research on some French sites and they say the same as you. Possibly get away with a clean, maybe need to replace. Just had a look in the BOL's and it seems very straight forward to remove, 1 bolt and the connector.
Cheers again, any idea of a price on these things?

If this is for your 407 Pete, it's part 1920GJ and is retailing at Peugeot today for £65.06 inc. VAT for a genuine OEM sensor. Just be careful with cheap ones as they can often be the bearer of pain and grief when they don't work on arrival or last very long if they do.

Thanks Marc, I've seen Bosch and the like for around 25 euros from autodoc etc but was unsure of the exact number.
Much appreciated.
