Hi Everyone!
We have a Peugeot 5008 Allure S/S AUTO, 2018 May, 20,000km.
We are getting intermittent gearbox fault sign when driving, around once a week, it comes and goes and we did not notice any issue with the gearbox at all. We are currently driving across Europe, just bought the car in April and have a 1 year warranty from the leadership which I’m not sure will cover a foreign repair.
If it’s not affecting the drive of the car and goes away from the monitor (no yellow spanner sign) then I’d hope it’s an electric signal fault rather than a fault with the gearbox itself, but I’m no car mechanic (cancer scientist) so would rather rely on your opinion whether or not to take it to a Peugeot garage in a foreign country or just keep calm and carry on, will it drive us back to the UK?!
Thanks a mill for your help!
Kinga

What is the message or what is the error or symbol you are getting?
If you have a Peugeot main dealer used warranty - I would check - as with Citroen they cover Europe. If you have your cover letter or booklet and show a dealer - you may have to pay up-front and reclaim the costs on your return. Hopefully it won't come to that though.

Re: Peugeot 5008 automatic gearbox fault signal
Hi Marc,
Thanks for your answer!
The ‘automatic gearbox fault’ flashes in orange on the main screen and the map showing Peugeot garages comes up. Then it goes and there’s no fault signal until it comes up again in around 1-2 weeks’ time.
I checked our warranty and it’s valid in Europe
- just one iffy thing is that we bought it from a Honda dealer but I’ll check with them whether they are ok with taking it to a Peugeot garage. Would you say have it checked or since the fault is not present continuously it’s more likely a sensor issue?
Best,
Kinga

Re: Peugeot 5008 automatic gearbox fault signal
Ok, so I can't help you with Honda warranties - they possibly won't be the same as Peugeot / Citroen Select Used Car Warranties. Furthermore, they probably won't have the correct diagnostic equipment to work on PSA vehicles in any case at a Honda branch - so that would be a waste of time. PSA use Diagbox for their diagnostic fault finding.
Are you towing a caravan or trailer by any chance? It will be hard to diagnose without getting proper diagnostics done, but I would certainly speak to your warranty people and tell them that it really needs diagnosing with Peugeot diagnostics not Honda! They should understand this. If they authorise the check, just keep records and get a reference and then if they OK it, I would head into a Peugeot garage and get them to run a diagnostic check. You should be able to claim the cost back if your warranty company OK it - they can't expect you to not to in a foreign country.

Hi Marc,
What you wrote is what happened, I called the dealership and they sent me to
Honda to get the number of an approved service centre who then promptly refused to look at the car. I’ve now pushed them to agree to let me take it to a Peugeot garage - will keep you updated
fingers crossed it’s nothing - easy to fix. We are not towing anything but have 3 kids and all their stuff in the car and the heat is IMMENSE - it’s 36C here!
Best,
Kinga

Re: Peugeot 5008 automatic gearbox fault signal
Hello,
I’ve just joined this group as I’m at a loss with my car.
It’s a 2014 5008 semi auto
I’ve had a gear box issue going on 7 months however the fault only comes up for a few minutes at a time I’ve never managed to get it to a garage with the fault showing. I’ve been told be various garages that the car doesn’t store the fault so without the fault showing the diagnostic machine can’t pick anything up.
It’s happening more frequently now still only stays on a short while, the screen flashes gearbox fault and I can’t stuck in a gear normally 2nd or 3rd. Using paddle or gear stick doesn’t change gears I have to wait till I can stop the car which normally re sets it or I can go into neutral then back in auto or manual and it will normally have jumped me to gear 5 if I have increased speed enough. I am trying to get it back to the garage for then to drive it to hopefully see the fault, though they have had it 3 times previously and said they fault didn’t show. I guess they didn’t drive it far/long enough .. anyway this is a big ramble
Has anyone rise experienced this?
Can you offer me any advice please it would be be greatly appreciated

Re: Peugeot 5008 automatic gearbox fault signal
The fault codes should be stored in the BSI - even temporary ones in the fault log. But you will need Diagbox to retrieve them most likely. Without the specific fault codes it can be hopeless trying to troubleshoot this as these piloted manual boxes are notoriously troublesome.

Please don't make multiple posts - it confuses the issue and duplicates responses - I've deleted your duplicate posts.

The problem may get worse or could cause further issues most likely, so limit driving to as little as possible and be make sure you have breakdown cover in case it fails totally.
